I can easily accept that an autistic child might have such a talent. Doubtless many do, but find it difficult/impossible to tell anyone. One advantage autistics may have is that in refusing, or being unable, to connect with the world as other people do, they're free of distractions and thus can bring their full attention to whatever interests them - in Jake's case, the links between people. But to make these connections, Jake needs information - and just how is he getting it?
Also, that social worker needs to be informed (and should already know anyway) that you should not try to make eye contact with autistic people; they don't like it. It tends to unsettle or even frighten them; they are not like the rest of society in the way they interact, and no attempt should be made to force them to be. Jake is deep enough in his shell as it is.
Having said all that, I'm intrigued to see where it's going.
