can't access email

We just got our free netgear router & connected up & now I find I cannot access my email in outlook express, I presume the router firewall is blocking it but I looked at the router settings online & can't see how to fix it

Re: can't access email

Whats the error ?

Can you connect to your mail server directly ?

telnet mailhost 110

if so try connecting without SSL

Maybe your mailserver is refusing your SSL certificate due to your IP change.

Try without SSL

Re: can't access email

I've onlly just connected to blueyonder today, I still have the settings for ADSL on my PC( back to using this now to check my mail )

I am not trying to access blueyonder mail servers, its Plusnet, tiscali & my own domain , Its not likely to be windows firewall it must be the routers but can't figure how to let my mailservers thru

As I said try to telnet to your mail server :

from the command prompt type :

telnet yourmailhost 110

once connect it might just be a blank screen
type

HELO localhost

(the mailserver should respond)

This tells us that at least you can connect to the mailserver.

Next is to reconfigure outlook or outlook express or whatever you're using to read mail to NOT use SSL when autenticating..

Once this is done and you can get back into your mail re-enable SSL

Is your AVG mail scanner set to use LAN or dial up? If dial up then change to LAN & see if that helps....

It's better if you keep your scanner turned on....
