Wireless laptop Connectivity - Iplayer/Youtube

Hi all

I've just got my partner a Compaq Presario CQ70 211EM laptop (running Vista, Atheros AR5007 wifi card).

Virgin BB has been connected to my main PC via router (Linksys wrt54GS) for well over a year without any issues. My Itouch also accesses it with no probs at all at any time of day and night.

I set up the laptop with my SSID and WPA details and connects fine, and signal strength is excellent.

Browsing seems to be OK, but whenever she plays any video, it stalls after about a minute. BBC Iplayer warns that there is limited bandwidth, but all tests indicate that I am getting the 10mg as usual. There is nothing running in the background on any other machines and all the router stuff has been secured.

Any ideas what can be causing this? I'm a bit at a loss as there doesn't seem to be any problem with the download speed when tested........

Thanks

Gabriel

Re: Wireless laptop Connectivity - Iplayer/Youtube

sounds more like the link between the router and the laptop rather than the BB connection. check to make sure the laptop and the router are on the same channel as that can cause huge slow downs on wifi.

Re: Wireless laptop Connectivity - Iplayer/Youtube

START > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Centre > Manage Network Connections (on the left) > Right click on your wireless connection and select Properties > click Advanced > in there will be a setting for the channel your wifi device is using - ensure it is set to the same as your router. some can auto-determine, but set it munually if you can.

to find what channel the router is using, you will either need to check the manual or take a look on the admin console (usually http / https)
