Guess the place game
So I thought it may be fun to have a "Guess the place game".
The rules are simple.
1. Someone posts a photo of somewhere. It could be a location in a city, town, village, a mountain, a beach, a castle, a landmark, or countryside.
Basically somewhere outdoors!
2. The aim of the game is to guess what and where the place is.
3. You can ask questions to try and find out more information....eg. Is it by the sea? Is it a capital city? Is this location in Italy? Is it a site of historic interest? Is this place famous for making Pork Pies? Is this place in Yorkshire? etc..
The person who posted the photo can reply with Yes or No.
4. The winner is the person who gets the place and location correct.
That person then gets the chance to host the next photo.
And so it continues.
For example:
The Cutty Sark, Greenwich
The Falkrik Wheel, Tamfourhill, Falkirk
Belvoir Castle, Leicestershire
Brighton Beach, Brighton
So to begin, I am going to post a photo. Off you go!
PS: Keep it fun and try and work it out yourselves. No reverse image lookups!

Halcyon's not about so I suppose I could tell you that there's a weir along the trail which I suppose is a small waterfall.

Unfortunately I don't have any photos that I could use any more that anyone could ever give a location for. The photos I would have loved to use were all stored on an external hard drive which somehow got wiped by my darling husband. :band head:
All I have now have left are family photos and I'm not putting them into the public arena.
A hint that may just trigger a memory is that these stepping stones do not cross the river but others do.

Re: Guess the place game
Very true, joylynne. The ones that cross the river would be Dovedale, another famous place.
I'm going to give this one to joglynne who PM'd me with the correct answer.
The photo is of one of the set of the stepping stones at Chee dale in the Peak District.
It is a lovely walk along the river Wye.
You can get there from the Monsal Trail, near Bakewell.
Well done Joglynne. Over to you....

Re: Guess the place game
OK, so I have found one of my own photos. It's one I took when I was desperate to see the sea, to view a big sky and a far horizon. Got there and back in a morning and didn't need to wear a mask as the place was deserted. Well apart from a couple of dots at the waters edge, the most extreme social distancing ever.
The second photo is somewhere quite special to me. My mother's family fished from this harbour.
A bit of a hint is that I stayed there most summers growing up from when I was about 5 years old and it took a couple of visits to the local shop before the locals realised I could understand what they were saying about my precocious nature (polite interpretation ). Used to make me giggle when they thought I didn't speak the language.
As the first may be too easy, and I won the first round, I hope no one minds me doing 2.

Re: Guess the place game
That registration can be seen almost anywhere in the world, well anywhere a boat can be seen..... but the boat you can see is close to home.

Re: Guess the place game
Sorry had to take a break. SP wins the trophy. It's changed a lot since my virst visits, all gussied up it looks quite smart far different than the working harbour I remember.
Anyone want to take a stab at the first picture. Clue ... if you were there now you could well hear screams over your right shoulder.
