Maybe, but in those days the PQ was excellent - never any pixelation unlike these days.

… and I thought pixelation has nothing to do with compression.

Re: UHD on Virgin Media

bitrate is a pointless metric unless comparing the exact same encoder and settings.

but people love it.

You'd be right. You've probably got a signal fault, Raider.

You may be correct, it must be a coincidence that since it has been more compressed the PQ has got worse and has more pixelation, particularly on faster motion sports.

Hi all,

New to the forum!

Was having a search around the web for some answer regarding sky sports UHD coming to our screens but found nothing at all! With the season just a few days no listings or ads from VM looks like it could be another season without UHD!

Virgin Media aren’t the best at promoting things before launch and more often or not things just appear.

Re: UHD on Virgin Media

While not holding my breath either channels have literally appeared on the morning of the press release.

That said, some on Internet forums get over excited and read press releases as what they want them to say rather than what they actually say, and the start of the football season is an arbitrary date that gets pulled out where things might happen when they also might not.

And welcome to the forum.

Re: UHD on Virgin Media

Virgin led us to believe that Sky Sports UHD was going to launch at the start of last season.
Anybody else see the on screen banner advertising Liverpool v Leedsin UHD last year? It appeared on the Thursday and it was pulled the very next day.

I got the impression Sky shelved their greater UHD plans, including their own platform, because of Covid19, preferring to wait for greater certainty e.g. in the sporting calendar.

Why would Virgin not lead you to believe UHD football would be coming shortly.

If they were to tell you it wasn't coming at all this season, I suspect a number of people would switch to Sky.

Both VM and Sky issued press releases confirming it.
