Could the Discovery channels be next to close?

Given the rise of streaming service, could the network if Discovery channels be the next set of channels to close with all of their content moving to Discovery;'s streaming service Discovery+?

Re: Could the Discovery channels be next to close?

No announcement has been made yet as far as I am aware, but I am sure it will come, just as the Disney channels have been pulled with the content going to Disney+.

You will get some on here saying it won’t happen, but we can already see the trend. I don’t see the broadcast channels and the streamers working side by side in the future. The channels will disappear.

So enjoy it while you can.

Shame. Will us legacy users get anything to replace them or some price reduction in our subscription?

I did report "Media Boy Sources confirmed that Discovery to axe linear channels by 2023" in August 2021.

Well, sooner or later something will have to give as more and more channels close due to the streaming revolution.

In the end, I expect there will be ‘bouquets of streamers’ rather than bouquets of channels. However, not all streamers might be prepared to allow third parties collect their subs, so such arrangements might be limited.

Re: Could the Discovery channels be next to close?

I ca't see there being any price reduction regardless of how many channels are closed, for whatever reason.

The only very remote possibility of any price reduction might happen if whoever buys BT Sport no longer allows it to be included in the current version of the XL package.
