Backup of DVD

We are looking at backing up some of our Holiday Videos that we had converted onto a DVD in the past.

We have been using Make MKV but now its asking us to register and will cost almost £43.

Im wondering if theres any cheaper or free alternatives around the place?

Thanks.

Re: Backup of DVD

never had an issue myself. I make a backup first then run the one in CCleaner

you could do a search and delete any keys relative to the software itself

Re: Backup of DVD

I use a MacOS application called Handbrake. If that’s available for Windows it should do what you want, for free.

If you don't need fancy menus etc you could just copy the .VOB files (if it's a standard DVD) and rename them to reflect the content then play the backup as a data disc if you've backed up to another disc. If you want to reauthor them you could use DVDshrink (it's a very old program but should still be knocking around and is very good, it doesn't convert the files in any way so there's no quality loss but will give you thumbnails in the menu etc).

Use the Beta key - it refreshes every 3 months or so iirc. it keeps it free and is how you are actually avised to use it. I'm not sure if the creator is doing it this way to get around some licensing thing, but whatever - it works just fine, no limitations.

Re: Backup of DVD

Plenty of software around that will let you save the DVD as an ISO file.

Then you can just open the ISO file in VLC player and it will open up just like a normal DVD with menus and everything included.

VLC Player is a free Media Player that plays almost everything.
