Fair enough, spot on yet again. Sorry. I cut'n'pasted details in a post almost a week ago (see bottom) and didn't even get it correct then .
I suppose I should've said the Discovery guy's new job at the top of the new company doesn't necessarily mean Discovery employees are in charge, the WB staff might have most of the other top jobs.
The bit I posted almost a week ago & misremembered
--->
" Under the terms of the agreement, which is structured as an all-stock, Reverse Morris Trust transaction, AT&T would receive $43 billion (subject to adjustment) in a combination of cash, debt securities, and WarnerMedia’s retention of certain debt, and AT&T’s shareholders would receive stock representing 71% of the new company; Discovery shareholders would own 29% of the new company. The Boards of Directors of both AT&T and Discovery have approved the transaction."

Thank you. It's a hobbyist site, so I'll still wait for the encryption flag to be added. If it is added, it is confirmation of a "subs club" agreement with Sky. Encryption being a Sky service. A shame then that Virgin didn't manage to negotiate a similar agreement.
|
Alternatively, it might not be going into the Sub Club, but be getting a sweetener for going FTV to get it off Freesat and generic satellite STB's as seems to have happened with Motors TV in the past?? I think this is unlikely though.

I doubt that CNN has the kind of audience levels that would encourage Sky to offer such a sweetener. Also, it doesn't really fit with the theory of CNN moving to a subscription only model. What really amuses me is Virgin's explanation that they will no longer be carrying CNN as it is moving to a subscription model. Isn't that the case for most of the channels carried on Virgin TV?

The question those wanting to know should not be "will CNN still be on Sky after 1st Sept 2021?" but should be "will CNN still be on Sky after 1st Jan 2022?".
|
Been told CNN carriage deal with Sky will expire sometime before November 2024.
Last deal Sky done with WarnerMedia was an FIVE yrs deal - Confirmed on October 31st 2019.

I know about that QVC Extra bit.

Also you will only have until the end of September to watch any FOX shows on your boxes until the channels are completely removed.
TiVo says that CNN will close on Virgin Media Channel 607 at midnight on Tuesday (early Wednesday).

Now we know that Virgin Media UK has signed an new deal to keep broadcasting the rest of the WarnerMedia channels minus CNN International.
Is Boomerang HD set to launch on Virgin Media as part of this deal?

Pretty much the expect marketing blurb, the only bit that I found useful to know was this...
" What will happen to Sky One series links and recordings?
For subscribed customers, existing Sky One recordings are unaffected. A series link on TiVoŽ/V6 set to “All channels” will find and record the shows in their new homes. However, a series link set for a show on Sky One will stop recording. For shows from Sky One staying on Sky Showcase, it will continue recording."
I'd been expecting Series Links for Sky 1 shows that were moving to Showcase to just move over since it was getting the same channel number, I was only expecting to change Series Links for shows that were moving to Comedy or Max.

Sky has been given Channel 163 (BBC Four HD old home) and are reusing Channel 206 (Universal Channel +1 old home) from September 1st. But I would have pick Virgin Channels 157 and 158.
