BBC Considers U-Turn On Closing BBC FOUR HD

The BBC is considering a U-turn on closing BBC4 as a television channel amid solid ratings and a backlash against cuts at the corporation.

The BBC said last year that it would shut down BBC4’s linear channel and move the brand online from 2025 as part of plans to become a “digital first” broadcaster.

BBC4 is a decent channel with some good content on there as l hope they do change their mind about it only going online.

If anything they should close BBC Three back down again.. the target audience of BBC Threes mainly watch TV online so having linear TV channel is pointless. It also means anyone over 35 won't have to accidentally stumble upon the complete garbage that is BBC Three while clicking through the channels!!

Well that does seem the obvious move. However if BBC4 is just going to become repeats , rather than new programming then that's a shame. Years of freezing the licence fee has unfortunately hit home.

I took a peak at their programming and can safely say I would not miss either.

BBC Three lost 80% of its audience when it went streaming only. That’s why they brought it back.

Agreed, despite BBC Four now only music and programmes from the archives.

and it was a good move. If they want to engage with the under 35s they need to be broadcasting programme on all platforms, including linear TV.

The return of BBC3 has been a flop.
https://deadline.com/2022/04/bbc-thr...ey-1234993201/

BBC4 is where the BBC can excel do the quality programmes other don't. There are too many down market trash channels for BBC3 to compete with.

Re: BBC Considers U-Turn On Closing BBC FOUR HD

So much of the content on BBC3 ends up repeated on BBC1 and BBC2 anyway. BBC4 fulfils 2 out of the 3 requirement's(inform, educate and entertain) for the BBC.
