Anthony Joshua is destroyed in New York.

It came. All the same mistakes he made against Klitschko. The absolute cockiness on this very same night. Anthony Joshua was brutally exposed. Mistakes and a performance you'd expect from Amir Khan.

We'll have no issue getting the Wilder fight now. Joshua just ate a huge slice of humble pie in an embarrassing performance. The kind I'd expect from Amir Khan. Ignore your corner and chase a finish for absolutely no reason. It nearly cost him against Klitschko and its absolutely cost him now. Eddie Hearn has probably fallen apart.

Deontay Wilder knocks out Anthony Joshua 8/10 times. I can't work out how someone as quick and powerful as Wilder doesn't catch Joshua at some point, even so you're guaranteed to land on him if you hit the mat first because he'll chase you with his chin in the air. Joshua just became the underdog. I can imagine Whyte and Parker fancy rematches and honestly I could see Whyte putting an end to Joshua with a lucky hook. Even with a rematch this is an absolute mountain to get over.

Cardio questions have been answered. It's awful. This needs addressing.
Chin is suspect. He's been rocked by pretty much every hard shot he's ever taken. Which in fairness have been against big punchers.
His boxing ability is solid.
His boxing IQ. Truly awful. Wipe that smile of his face when he's got his hands down and his chin in the air. He's not Conor McGregor.

I so wanted AJ to be the face of Heavyweight boxing for a long time to come and after Klitschko all ran smoothly. I'd assumed he'd learn from the experience and well you get better of course. Apparently that's selective. Echoing above but it's absolutely infuriating to see someone as talented as Joshua make mistakes like this. Even more so when he then goes on to compare it to that in the post fight. Keep your hands up, stop chasing opponents when you've got a monumental reach advantage and listen to your corner. Without a doubt there's a rematch clause. If he can't get this done then he's done.

Re: Anthony Joshua is destroyed in New York.

No Surprise with Joshua as he was always spoon fed bum opponents for several years and now his lack of Boxing skills have well and truly found him out.

No surprise IMO as boxers might be big these days in size but none of them possess the skills of the past masters and are nowhere near that calibre of class.

To put it bluntly anybody who thinks they are true heavyweights in the sense of the word the thing is they are not as there should be a division for Super Heavyweights and as that is what a lot of these modern boxers are as they are nothing more then big and horizontal without possessing any great boxing skills.

Re: Anthony Joshua is destroyed in New York.

In fairness he's had better class opponents than the two closest ranked guys. He's just never been in a situation like this since Klitschko. For whatever reason he was desperate to chase the finish and got caught in a trade off. Why is an absolute bemoth with gigantic reach trading shots with a podgy Mexican in the middle of the ring? Ruiz clearly wasn't as hurt as Breazeale or Povetkin and had his legs beneath him and the ability to throw back the same as Klitschko did. His boxing skill is among the best at the weight. It's his mindset that's the issue. In comparison I can only find one as daft. Khan.

The Bookies are rich. He was probably told to take the dives. His opponent looked like a an oompa lumpa. Don't trust it as a sport any longer, the promoters and money are everything.

Re: Anthony Joshua is destroyed in New York.

Hope he can come back from this. Eddie Hearn should've been on the phone to David Haye as early as last night in respect to getting Joshua past 6 rounds without blowing out. He's worked conditional miracles for Chisora and he's the best viable outlet around the heavyweight scene right now. If anyone knows anything about boxing with massive muscle mass right now it's him.

I warned years ago in previous threads about Hearn mismanagement. If he messes this up the British fans will never forget. We've been shat on far too many times with overpromotion and mismanagement. Khan, Brook and Hatton to name a few. The first having so many defensive frailties that were just plain ignored in favour of his incredible offensive output only to have Virgil Hunter render him absolutely incapable of producing anything. Brook and Hatton were both mismanaged in near identical ways. Protected undefeated status fighting out of home town venues only to make silly jumps in class leading to two brutal knockouts a piece.

Last note on this though. Joshua needs to learn from defeat. He learned nothing from Klitschko because he dug out a win.

Callum Smith is exciting. Guy is a giant SMW and hopefully fills the gap Froch left. Massive hooks in this guy. Opponent was nothing to shout about but I can't see Canelo trying to chase this guy down any time soon.

Katie Taylor got battered and still managed to unify the division. She lost basically. The judges were as awful as expected. Taylor is an exceptional boxer in a fairly talentless gender pool. UFC women's started like this and it picked up once your Rouseys and Holms showed up. Women's boxing can only go up. Wasn't much Taylor could do last night. She came to box and the opponent came to fight. Taylor lost that fight.

The bookies aren't rich? You get absolutely nothing odds on the Joshua's, Mayweathers and Wilder of this world. In fact quite the opposite. The bookies will have paid out massively on the people that took a punt on Ruiz who at his shortest odds was 15-1

Re: Anthony Joshua is destroyed in New York.

It's having a resurgence it usually goes through when a British prospect comes through. Nothings changed in the USA though. Its still Vegas rigged cards and money.

UFC has forced boxing to improve slightly. With the UFC being an organisation and having contracted fighters it can guarantee big fights and avoid record padding the way boxing can't.

Joshua gets his title back

Quote:
Anthony Joshua has defeated Andy Ruiz Jr to win back the unified WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight world titles.

The Briton won a wide points decision in Saudi Arabia to reclaim the belts he lost in Madison Square Garden earlier this year.

Two judges scored the contest 118-110 while the other had it 119-109, as Joshua extended his professional record to 23-1.

Wasn't the best fight, never looked like winning by knockout. Gives Wilder 36 minutes to find that one punch.

Joshua is not a big knockout specialist as such as he best when boxing at distance with his great reach and that is what he did last night thankfully.

If he boxes the same way against Wilder he will win.

Re: Anthony Joshua is destroyed in New York.

Boxing clinic to be fair. I'd be far more worried about Joshua now being Fury or Wilder. They both seen him as a pressure knockout fighter.

Joshua absolutely has power, it just isn't a one punch done. It's a pressure barrage of 3 and 4 shots that put you down. He just had a horrible habit of jumping all over the opponent when all he needed to do was reset and go again (See Ruiz) who only caught him clean because Joshua abandoned everything he done and started chasing him around the ring.

Joshua boxing for 12 solid rounds is something both Wilder and Fury never wanted to see. It's made their job a whole lot harder. Fury comes off the worst in this. Joshua has nothing to fear, Fury throws pillows and is an exception all round boxer. Joshua boxes infinitely better than Wilder so the 12 round dance just won't cut it. He'll have to exchange with Joshua at times who establishes his jab better than wilder and will land hard accurate shots. If Joshua lands his usual pressure set up then Fury will go down. The only person that managed to avoid this pressure was Parker (AJs gameplan). Everyone else hit the floor including Ruiz.

Wilder faces a fair few issues but at least has something to worry Joshua going forward. It could absolutely end at any time but the thought of facing a guy that can box at half the level of Fury and throw massive shots at you can't be exciting for him. Ortiz nearly chinned the guy twice and he's half the size of Joshua and half the reach.

The idea that Wilder and Fury are struggling to get Joshua into a fight is bollocks. The guy is the biggest draw in heavyweight boxing and for the most part they want absolutely nothing to do with him. Furys fighting absolute bums and then Wilder. Wilder is all too happy to do the same. The two biggest names on their CV's are each other which at this level needs called out upon. Its embarrassing.

Parker/Whyte/Ruiz/Povetkin are all still active and these two won't go anywhere near them.

Whyte vs Joshua is possible but I can't see that ending any other way than it did the first time. Joshua is too tall for the lad, Whyte has to lunge to land anything. Jab and knockout.

At the very least give me Wilder vs Whyte. It's getting ridiculous. Wilders over 40 fights and he's only shared the ring with two genuinely ranked fighters. Furys on that same path.
