TBH I find it strange that in announced in the budget anyway as that is the purview of a different department.
From what I've read from this budget (not a lot), it would benefit you a great deal if you do qualify for PIP as this would help you as it goes towards UC's new LCWRA changes. PIP will now be the main factor for certain disability benefits and allowances.

From the BBC... ( https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-64967329 )

'A new Universal Credit "health element" will be awarded to claimants of PIP, "ensuring there is a safety net in place for the most vulnerable", the white paper says.' & 'When the changes come in, new claimants who do not qualify for PIP would not get any additional benefit top-up and would be expected to look for work'. - But a key point is 'new claimants'.

I can't see any information for those on the legacy benefits. Though I know there will be a change over at some point but this keeps getting pushed back.

I do agree that the 'automated' sanctions is harsh and will be a massive worry for a lot of people, hence PIP is now key. My worry is now they will move the goal posts even further to make it even harder to claim PIP.

One of the main safety nets for PIP (and Attendance Allowance for the elderly), is that if you have a partner who for any reason is not working, can claim carers allowance. This will automatically excuse them from looking for work and will not be subject to these sanctions.

John Redwood is absolutely right: reduce Corporation Tax to 15% (matching Ireland) and then see where the investment goes.

Its the last budget before the general election you want to watch as no doubt they will announce tax cuts to try to bribe the electorate.

There's so many allowances that our rate is actually quite competitive. The devil's in the detail not the headline figure.

Our public services especially health, education and defence are underfunded so I don't see tax cuts coming any day soon.

The days of fantasy economics ended with the last PM. The best hope for the Conservatives are sound economics from Sunak and Hunt but the likelihood is that they will only be able to reduce not reverse, Labour's poll lead.

I'm not happy. The 1%, as usual, getting a bung from the Tories at the expense of the rest of the population. Don't forget the stealth tax not announced in the Budget where the tax thresholds are frozen so we pay more tax

But will you still vote for them? If they win the next election nothing will change, with us getting more of the same.

I know this isn't a Labour thread but let me balance my question by saying if there was an election today I'd struggle to vote Labour and could well abstain which is a shame and a total waste of my vote. A sad day.

I will vote for JR. Also, for balance, I could never vote Labour nor Lib Dem. I'm devastated as to the state of my party.

How devastated do you need to be to stop supporting them? Has JR voted with or against the policies you don't like?

I've emailed my local MP and the leader to tell them why they won't get my vote unless things change. Every week I'm feeling more and more politically isolated.

JR and I see eye to eye on all policy issues. He and his group of like-minded MPs are also sort of isolated.

Why would they announce it again ? It was in a previous budget.
