Network Problem with Router

I have a setup a PC to Laptop network using a router.
I can now access the Internet on both.
I have installed File Sharing on both but cannot get it to work.
Both computers show up in the Network & File Sharing Centre.
I can ping the Laptop from the PC but from the Laptop cannot ping either the PC or the router.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Network Problem with Router

To start:
Check the firewalls on both machines allow file sharing

Are they both XP?

Re: Network Problem with Router

Are both PC's in the same workgroup / domain?

Is this a wired, or wireless setup?

Re: Network Problem with Router

If the laptop cannot ping router or other PC, is the laptop actually connecting to the network? Does it get on the internet? Has the laptop got an IP and if so is that in the same range as the router and other PC?

Re: Network Problem with Router

Rob,

Yes both computers can access the internet.
The laptop IP address is in the same range as the PC & router.
On both computers the network is shown in the Network & sharing Centre.(Pc,Laptop,Router,Internet)

However,if I click START button then Network, on the laptop it shows the Router & Laptop but doing the same on the PC shows nothing!!!
