Optimizing home network

Hi all,

I'm relatively new to networking and I just started using a 50Mbps connection at my house. My setup is a Cisco DPC3000 along with a Linksys WRT54GL v.1.1. There are nine people that live at my house and I wanted help getting the most out of the wireless. Two of our computers are wired but the rest are wireless. As of right now my computer is getting around 30Mbps through the router when there are no other computers on the network. As for wireless people are getting around 15Mbps. Any help or insight would be much appreciated.

Re: Optimizing home network

54meg (G) wireless can't handle a 50MB internet connection, simply because of the overheads on wireless. You need a N class router/wifi card to get the most of your 50Mb internet.

Re: Optimizing home network

Thank you for the reply. Does anyone have recommendations on reliable routers? My price range would be around $150. Again, all help is much appreciated.

Re: Optimizing home network

I dont really do $US but I found this after a quick Googleage

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Linksys-Cisc.../dp/B00318BN72

which is £45 (roughly $70) but may vary with taxes etc.

I tend to stick to Cisco/Linksys or D-Link kit nowadays.

Remember your PCs/Laptops would ALSO need WiFi N capability (most recent laptops should be capable, Desktop PCs...not so much probably)
