The FA Cup- The biggest comp being made into a farce
I am a great football fan, and to me the FA and Premier League should hold there head in shame at the mockery which is surrounding this great competition.
Years ago the FA Cup final,, used to be on its own on a Saturday AT 3-00PM and shown on ITV and BBC1, and everyone looked forward to it, the season was over, and the game was on, and everyone watched it.
NOW it is being turned into a farce, like the League Cup, we have other games on, on the SAME day, we have different times for it being watched, and being governed by the TV COMPANY showing.
The League Cup is in the same boat, Clubs are using second string sides for that.
Put the FA Cup back where it belongs, on its OWN day.

Re: The FA Cup- The biggest comp being made into a farce
I agree.
The FA Cup final always used to be last game of the season and I was supprised to see that it wasn't this year.
BBC at three O'Clock was the time, league affairs were over, the cup final was the end of the season, prep for the roundabout transfer window could start and clubs could build.
One O'Clock for a cup final?
Weird.

The FA cup was(is) always near my birthday and not being a footie fan I got annoyed that the family wouldn't go out because of 22 overpaid pansies chasing an inflated bladder around a field. And to top it off 2 of the 3 channels would show the same match at the same time.

When i was young the FA Cup was a all day event, you would see the teams at breakfast, follow them on the coaches right up to the BIG match, then in the dressing room interviews after the game.
It was always a great end to great seasons!
Now it just seems like any other match!
So Sad!

Its not often I agree with you Arthur, but I have to here.
I really dont see why there are premiership matches on the same day, its nonsense.
The FA Cup final should have been on its own, as the final game of the season.

Re: The FA Cup- The biggest comp being made into a farce
This year it was made difficult by the Champions League taking place at Wembley a couple of weeks after while next weekend is the final round of Premier league matches which have to take place on the same day, at the same time. Doing it after the Champions League final, 2 weeks after the end of the season, would have been messy and would also extend the season for the two clubs involved.
Truth is the Champions League final always makes things complicated because the FA Cup can't clash with it, and that final tends to be the week after our season ends. They should have given the cup it's own day though, I agree.

and it's clashing again next year to make way for international competitions and the year after it'll be some thing else, the year after that it'll be because of the World Cup and finally the oldest and most famous domestic cup competition in the world will clash because Utd, City, Arsenal or some one else wants to go on a money spinning pre season tour

Although it was a shame for the premiership games to be on the same day as the FA cup final it did provide one unique day of celebration for the city of Manchester

It's been starting to feel like Murcin playoffs like we have here for ice hockey - the whole year seems to have counted for nothing now. To me the FA Cup Final always used to be an added extra not a hidden extra.

Re: The FA Cup- The biggest comp being made into a farce
I was actually going for Stoke to win, But to me The FA Cup Final is the greatest competition in the world and should be treated with the credit it deserves.
Trouble is these days it is controlled by a bunch of OAP's who couldn't organise a p*** up un a brewery, and overpaid fools.
In the glory days of the FA Cup, they played for the pride of the shirt they wore and the silverware, but nowadays they give a damn, its a place in europe, and more money.

It's not the FA's fault the cup has lost a lot of the appeal it once had. It's probably the fault of Sky giving a lot more football for people to watch, as well the Champions League which also gives a lot of football to watch and whose final is usually close enough to the FA cup final to dwarf it.
The ratings for the cup go down, less people want to watch it despite football being more popular.

Re: The FA Cup- The biggest comp being made into a farce
its not sky's fault at all the FA cup is on the normal channels not just sky, it is the FA's fault for moving the date of it, it has always been the weekend after the season ends but they cant do that now coz they have too many cup finals at wembley in may i.e rugby fa cup championship playoff finals for all divisions champions league this season, so it is there fault for over booking the stadium

The problem is partly that it's much more common to watch football on the TV. Partly because of Sky but also because of the Champions League on ITV. The interest in the FA Cup has been declining for years, not just since the new Wembley was built.
