Cable Guide monthly - did anyone keep their's?

Hi - is there anybody here who may have kept their Cable Guide listing magazines from 1996?

It was the forerunner to the magazine which NTL had their own cover added to later - but the inners were the same in different regions.

Trying to track down some Carlton Select listings from Sept-Oct 1996 - which would include episode titles.

Re: Cable Guide monthly - did anyone keep their's?

Did you have any luck with your search?

At that time (autumn 1996), Carlton Select was still called SelecTV and i seem to recall that they started their broadcast day at 5pm with an episode of "Birds of a Feather."

It was a shame that the channel didn't survive beyond 2000 as it had carriage on cable, as well as OnDigital, until it closed.

Also, what was the lifespan of Cable Guide? When was it first published and when did it close?

And were there any regional cable guides published by individual cable companies?

Cable Guide was original for Croydon Cable but went national later. Never tracked any old copies down.

There was a short lived NTL Guide too for subscribers.

Re: Cable Guide monthly - did anyone keep their's?

Our version of Cable Gude had the Telewest logo at the top. When Telewest launched its digital TV service, it also launched a new magazine for digital customers called Zap. It contained just highlights, rather than full listings for the month.

I believe the companies received VAT relief on the proportion of the bill that covered the cost of the magazines. If I remember correctly the magazines were dropped in the early 2000s shortly after changes to the VAT system.

The channels listed were always accurate with one exception - I remember listings appearing for four extra Front Row channels (55-58) though they never actually launched on Telewest, I'm not sure about other areas.

We had Front Row for a short time here on numbers 50 to 54 with an event channel on 55 - thid was at the end of the ComTel era.
TV Zap rings a bell here - we had NTL by then.
