Re: The Scottish Football Thread

Looking at it from a independent point of view l think Celtic have appointed a nobody as a manager who simply has not got a clue.

Early Days Den. I hope you're not on the Jury when I finally get caught

There's nobody more disappointed than me with the results and the performances so far but it's not all down to the manager. I can argue about tactics and team selection but the reality is it's been mainly individual errors that have been costly -usually by established players.

If the manager hasn't got the dressing room then he should be allowed to bring in his own players. There are no Henrik Larsson, Dalglish figures in the current squad so ditch them If the board don't back him then it's them that are at fault.

He's yet to lead a team out in front of a crowd at Celtic Park. That's when the Jury selection process starts

Re: The Scottish Football Thread

If this is an omen of the Premier League season, then it would be nice to see a closer title race. Fed up with Celtic being 30 clear by end of January.

Partly agree. I'd rather have increased competition arising from other teams improving rather than Celtic coming back to the pack.

Re: The Scottish Football Thread

Just think they may face Spurs. Then we will show Celtic how to pay football - we showed that the other night

There performance of late as been extremely poor - they should get in a manager who knows how to play football - the Celtic way

But, we've been playing the Spurs way so far this season - I thought you'd be happy!

BBC: Legia Warsaw face Uefa investigation over Celtic tie.

Legia Warsaw have admitted they are under investigation for fielding an ineligible player during their Champions League win over Celtic.

Re: The Scottish Football Thread

Well, if the player only played 2 minutes and the game was finished before he came on then Warsaw got no advantage. However, it seems weird that they would forget he had another game left to serve on his ban if he did have one more to go. But I thought Warsaw had already played a 2 leg match before the Celtic one so I would assume he had served it after the first leg had finished.

It will be interesting to see how UEFA deal with this. From their own rule book Legia should forfeit the match 3-0 which would put them out on away goals.

I'm not comfortable with Celtic progressing like that but unless there are extenuating circumstances I don't see how UEFA can do anything different.

Article 21.2:
A match is declared forfeit if a player who has been suspended following a
disciplinary decision participates in the match.

and...

21.4:

The consequences of a match being declared forfeit are as follows:
a) the team forfeiting the match is deemed to have lost 3-0 (5-0 in futsal
competitions), unless the actual result is less favourable to the member
association or club at fault, in which case that result stands;

There does seem to be wriggle room for players who are ineligible for other reasons but not playing a suspended player.

Meeting at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning apparently, I wonder what how UEFA will deal with the draw if nothing is decided quickly. If the decision goes against Legia they'd still have the right to appeal.

Decisions, decisions... I intended buying the SS Season book with the money I hoped would be purchasing 3 tickets for the Champions League games at Celtic Park... hmmm, I think I'll wait a few days

The part at the bottom of the article is interesting:

"In 2010, Uefa fined Debrecen £15,000 but rejected a protest from opponents Litex Lovech, who wanted the Hungarian side kicked out of the tournament for fielding an ineligible player.

Debrecen argued that they fielded Peter Mate in good faith as a substitute in Bulgaria when they were leading 4-1 on aggregate.

Uefa ruled that Debrecen had "no interest in fielding this player for the three last minutes of additional time, when the score was so clearly in its favour".

SKY are reporting that UEFA's disciplinary regulations decree that a match may be declared a forfeit if an ineligible player participates, "as long as the opposing team files a protest." Looks like the ball is in Celtic's court. Will they take their 6-1 thrashing with dignity or will they speak up looking for a back door into the next round? Or has this situation arisen due to Celtic lodging a protest already?
