DDoS mitigation is currently in place at a number of Virgin Media's backbone routers

Re: National Outage?
I like many here do not use VM's DNS but still suffered the outages so a DNS attack seems unlikely.

Maybe it was aliens, and this was the first step in their cunning plan.

Ditto.
Besides, it also had the hallmarks of routing issues as it died (and came back) in stages, hence for periods of time I could reach CF but not some of my other servers.

WiFi has nothing to do with this outage, try rebooting your hub.

Re: National Outage?
Be nice to get some feedback from VM on the cause, and how they are going to ensure it doesn't happen again. We pay their wages.

Re: National Outage?
Which DNS do you use and is it safe to use an alternative DNS than your ISP provider.

And, as usual, their dire customer service is criticised.
On top of the removal of the £288 cap for leaving before the end of the contract, on top of the removal of the right to cancel if they increase their prices mid contract, we see rwo outages in one day, appalling customer service and an inflation busting price rise
Not surprised people who can leave are doing so, they're being had for fools.

Google. Perfectly safe.
Remember that your ISP uses their DNS to filter your web experience. Not to say that Google doesn't but it's not so parochial.
