Synology NAS DS215J Question

I have the above NAS that's fitted with a single 3TB WD Red after the second failed on me.

The problem is this, the NAS works flawlessly UNLESS I right click on a zip file on the drive and then it causes explorer to crash out.

I Can click on Zip files elsewhere without an issue but doing so on the NAS causes an explorer crash.

I have done a scan on file system files and it found and repaired errors but the issue persists, anyone have any idea?

Thanks

Re: Synology NAS DS215J Question

Have you tried copying that particular file to your pc and replicating the same issue? If your NAS runs DSM can you run a SMART test or a WD test to see if you have got any bad sectors on the hdd. I am wondering if the file is corrupt or if the pc is getting confused because it is trying to extract the zip file to a temporary folder while you work with it and it either can't do that on the nas or it isn't being copied from the NAS to the temp folder on the pc fast enough.

Re: Synology NAS DS215J Question

I seem to remember having issues with both a Synology NAS and a WD NAS. It was to do with security/permissions with zip files and their unknown contents. W10 brought up a dialog box.
Other people have similar issues, so best to do a search and find a solution that best fits your setup.
It's not a bug as such, just a quirk of security/permissions.

Re: Synology NAS DS215J Question

I had a mainboard replaced in my Synology twice. The third time was not covered by guarantee. I am not a huge fan...
