Modern VM, have they improved congestion?
Hi guys, considering getting the giga1 service after many years away from VM, my original reason for leaving was frequent congestion problems.
Have they improved congestion in the bad areas to the point its not a big issue anymore? or is it something that might still be a problem. I believe there is a trial period where I could leave without penalty as well?

Re: Modern VM, have they improved congestion?
dont quote me on this as being the gospel truth, but i believe VM now stop letting badly congested areas ordering higher packages untill things are sorted, well sorted in vms eyes at least. so if you can order over 200 eg 350 500 gig1 it should be an area that vm don't consider congested,
a friend of min started getting it bad and for about 3 months vm stopped letting customers order higher packages the website would just say you can get upto 200Mb in your area, then after 3 months the website updated to at the time allowing 500Meg to be ordered again and he stopped havng problems went back to 24/7 decent service

Re: Modern VM, have they improved congestion?
Ok thank you for the information ash45 that is good news.
Interestingly events have changed, and cityfibre are planning works on my street in 10 days time, so my VM plans are on hold as I would prefer FTTP.
However it remains an option if for whatever reason FTTP doesnt become available for me.
I am currently on 80/20 VDSL now syncing at 72mbit interleaved, and with the 100 gig games been released now it does feel dated, also I upload a lot more content than I used to as well.

Re: Modern VM, have they improved congestion?
Its a big jump from 72M to 1G.
Do you really need that much of an increase ?
Even the 350M (which I have) has an upload of 35M.

yea TBF i dont blame you, ive been a happy VM customer from the blueyonder days, I've always seemed to be very lucky in living in an are that hasn't suffered from massive congestion, and currently i do live in a VM FTTP area (RFoG) but at least for thethe next fre years this will remain as is running n docsis with the pants upload speeds lol, but even after being a cable customer from 1995 and being very happy with it (well mum was i took over it when i became 18), if CF or the likes rolled out anytime soon and offered their symmetric packages id jump quicker i could blink.
i cant moan at the download speed but the upload really does need work.

Re: Modern VM, have they improved congestion?
I'm on Gig1 and get a almost constant 930 - 960mb with a hub 4 and a 2.5gb ethernet card so very happy downloading at around 120mb/s for the most part.

Re: Modern VM, have they improved congestion?
I would imagine areas that have seen Gig1 upgrades (which I think is most now?), will have solved any outstanding congestion issues.

Re: Modern VM, have they improved congestion?
Cheaper to get 500mb then get a o2 sim to get the speed uplift to 1Gig

Are you sure ? they are not the same here, and clearly should not be.
(if they are, Id suggest its an error).

TBF none offer price yes they are both the same price its one of the main reasons i upgraded, The extra upload is nice for my media server but it was 90% fueled on the fact i was paying the exact same price for M500 as they are selling Gig1, only caveat it reset my minimum term but i don't plan on leaving as nothing to compare is coming to the area anytime soon so that wasnt a big deal
