Wireless working for iPod but not for latops

Hi all

We have Virgin Broadband via cable modem to which a Linksys Wireless-G (WRT54G) router is connected.

To the wireless router, there is a cabled connection (the main computer I am sending this post via) and we have two laptops in the house both which normally connect to the wireless network without a problem, but in the last 24 hours I have only been able to get a connection very intermittently.

The laptops very occasionally connect for perhaps a minute but then when you start using the Internet on them they lose their connection to the wireless router. If I ping the router when the connection is working I get some packet loss. I am not an expert on these things but I assume that means the connection is weak?

The security on the wireless router is WPA2 Personal. I tried disabling the security on it to see if I could connect the laptops but still nothing.

What is most bizarre about all of this though is that I have an iPod Touch which is connecting to the wireless router perfectly. I can send/receive emails on it, browse the Internet etc, all without a problem.

So it appears that the laptops cannot (or only very occasionally) connect to the wireless router but my iPod can. I cannot work out what is going wrong so any help with this strange problem would be much appreciated.

Re: Wireless working for iPod but not for latops

Thanks for your reply. I've tested a third laptop since with the same result. The makes are HP, Compaq (which I think is the same company as HP) and Acer.

As I write, the HP laptop is working wirelessly since I turned it on 10 minutes ago, but I don't know for how long as I have had it working as mentioned before but then it loses its connection again. The others are not on right now.
