Wireless router on Virgin Media Broadband

Hi all

I am very newbie on Virgin Media cable Broadband. I have bought which a Belkin G+ MIMO router and thought I would be able to connect it direct to my broadband cable and be able to use my laptop (with built in wireless networking) as my only computer anywhere in the house. However the connections and cales supplied with the unit seem to require that the router is connected by cable to a desktop which then broadcasts to the laptop. I have connected it to a laptop and checked that the internet connection works on it. I can't now manage to set up the laptop (on XP) to recognise the wireless network

Two questions:
1: Am I asking the impossible to connect the router to my broadband cable without a computer connection?

2: How do I set about configuring my laptop to be able to connect to the router? The wizard always ends up saying there is no wireless network available.

Thanks

Richard
If I accept that

1. No, you're not asking the impossible

2. Make sure that the router has its wireless enabled. Some routers come with the wireless turned off as standard. Go into the admin page of the router ( 192.168.2.1) and have a look. I have the similar router, but can't remember if the wireless was on or off when I first set it up lol

Thanks, I'll try it.

I have put up the query again as a reply to another thread, before I saw your reply!
