Got to pay for the richest 1%'s latest giveaway somehow. Fill your boots time for the Tories as their days are numbered.

Yes, just like they announce every other budget decision twice.

Well since you're so confident Labour will win, why do you care ?

They can just change it in their first budget, unless of course they dont .. which I'm sure you'll think is ok, because they are not Tory ..

Pretty sure I said they wouldn't want to remind people of their decision, just shame there aren't more people out there reminding the electorate of their decision though imo

Amazing how many Conservative MPs now on their social media bios and on council election leaflets going out are trying to hide their Conservative brand.

Re: The Chronicles of Rishi

Sunak is polling better than his party.
Quote:
Rishi Sunak’s recent run of political success looks set to collide with electoral reality next month, when the Conservatives face a possible battering in local elections across England.

The UK prime minister has tried not to draw attention to the May 4 contests, which will take place in 8,000 seats across 230 council areas, in one of the biggest tests of public opinion ahead of the general election.

The national media was not invited to the party’s campaign launch in Wolverhampton on March 24 — few noticed it had even happened — while the Tory spring forum, normally a big event, was held behind closed doors.

With election experts claiming the party could lose perhaps 1,000 seats, the town hall contests look set to be a jarring note in the Tory narrative of political recovery under Sunak’s leadership.

“The prime minister is doing well, but we need a lot more time to win the public back after last year’s disasters,” admitted one Sunak ally, referring to the doomed premierships of Boris Johnson and Liz Truss.

The Conservatives face a fight on two fronts, with Labour looking to reclaim the “red wall” of the North and Midlands, and the Liberal Democrats looking to make gains in the southern Tory “blue wall”.

Sunak has closed to just four points the gap on Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer in “who would make the best prime minister” polling, according to YouGov, but his party still typically trails Labour by 15-20 points.

It’s too soon for them to try to use ‘brand Rishi’ as an electoral asset. If they do it now, when they’re likely to get a drubbing regardless, he becomes tarnished. They’re going to have to keep their heads and their expectations down. It also looks like a lot of Tory councillors have more or less de-branded their social media presences and are planning to fight entirely on whatever local issues they stand for.

Re: The Chronicles of Rishi

Also Sunak's numbers are better relative to Johnson's final months and Truss's one month. He still isn't hugely popular, just not hated.

Re: The Chronicles of Rishi

I wonder if this will be raised in PMQs?

PM investigated over possible failure to declare wife's shareholding in childcare firm

Parliament's standards watchdog has opened an investigation into the prime minister over possible failure to declare an interest.

The probe by the standards commissioner, Daniel Greenberg, was launched on 13 April and cited paragraph 6 of the MPs code of conduct, which governs how MPs should behave.

The code states that "members must always be open and frank in declaring any relevant interest in any proceeding of the House or its committees, and in any communications with ministers, members, public officials or public office holders".

A Downing Street source said the investigation relates to the shares his wife Akshata Murthy holds in a childcare agency that could benefit from a policy announced in the budget.

Re: The Chronicles of Rishi

Seems pretty minor. She is so rich she probably has shares all over the place. He should have declared it but he didn't avoid doing so because he wanted a nice little earner, just overlooked it because of how diverse her portfolio is I am guessing.

MPs get done by these kinds of oversights all the time. It's different to something like Owen Patterson where there was more intent.

I actually thought the same but given the ingordigiousness of this government I'm not inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt, you seen the latest in teesside, £100 million worth of public land sold off for £110, not £110 million, a hundred and ten quid
