Alternative free service like DynDNS
Hi,
I've been a DynDNS customer for about 4-5years now. I recently got an email saying they were going to stop their free service.
Does anyone know of and could recommend a free service like DynDNS. My domain is registered with 123-reg and I've got my web server running behind my virgin media connection.
Many thanks

Having looked at no-ip they free subscription reckons that Hostnames Expire Every 30 Days

https://www.cloudns.net/
I switched to their free service when Dyn took over editdns and subsequently scrapped it

The hostname only expires if you don't actually use it once every 30 days.
If there's no activity on the host then you get sent an email with a link you have to say you are still using the host.

Re: Alternative free service like DynDNS
Thanks guys,
I've decided to go with no-ip.com
Really nice and simple to setup.
I've now found a new home :-)

Re: Alternative free service like DynDNS
Not sure if this trick still works but you used to be able to get a free dyndns account by signing up for the dlinkddns service that dlink provided for customers. Behind the scene dyndns run the servers for that service. Had the added bonus that you could use the same details to login to dyndns so worked on routers that only supported dyndns natively.
If this still works, hopefully useful info for anyone else needing something similar.
