Agreed.

I can't see Starmer having just the one term. The Conservatives will need several years to rebuild and find their mojo.

The Conservatives need to move back to the centre as that is where the most votes are to be had.

Even that staunch Tory grandee Max Hastings has declared his support for Starmer now.

It took just one term of government to turn a hopeless situation into a 20% majority for Labour.

So it is perfectly possible that if the SNP vote collapsed, the Conservatives could regain control in just one Parliament.

Mind you, they need a decent leader to achieve that. Sunak isn’t it.

No, the other direction, but with a good leader.

"One term"…

(Old Boy effectively ignores the fiascos of the Johnson and Truss Governments, or the fact that the May Government was propped up by the DUP in 2017, as the Tories didn’t have a majority…)

Far less than than that. Back in April 2020, when Starmer became Labour leader, the Conservatives had a 22-point poll lead.

Last time the SNP vote collapsed, it was the Rutherglen and Hamilton West byelection where Labour romped home. I'm not sure a collapse in the SNP vote would necessarily favour the Conservative Party.

He's the best they've currently got though.

A good leader wouldn't take the Party in that direction as they would make themselves unelectable.

Re: Sir Keir’s Kerfuffle

One term seems accurate ?

In early 2020 they were miles ahead, now they are miles behind, it took less than 3 years to "achieve" this.

Re: Sir Keir’s Kerfuffle

Three prime ministers, not three governments.

Re: Sir Keir’s Kerfuffle

And Liz Truss also jettisoned Johnson's plans (and everyone's mortgages) in her one month as PM.

I think it's also worth noting how bad Corbyn was so those numbers were always going to come down a bit.
