Re: Euro 2020: England Reach Final
Whilst we're at it I also don't think many of us 'expected' to win Euro 2020. Even the press today is largely focusing on the disappointment in the final but the pride in getting there. There is not the angry expectation that we should have won the entire thing.

Erm, you didn’t see the fighting and riots as well as the abuse aimed towards sole black players?

I think it's fine for the home nations not to support England. I just get annoyed when people zero in on things every team does and make them out to be uniquely wrong about England.
The European press was going on about no one wanting England to win because of it's fans - or the 'dive' against Demark - as if Italy doesn't have a problem with football violence or diving either.

Racists exist on social media (and elsewhere). I dare there are racists in Wales who would abuse black players under a fake name on Twitter.
And yes the fighting and riots are a problem I don't think that's unique to England either and whilst we should ban these people and also work out how to better stop them in future, it's more a result of people getting tanked up before the game and acting like thugs. They would have started fighting if we won as well.
I perfectly accept these are problems but I don't accept they're unique to England.

Re: Euro 2020: England Reach Final
Some are calling for England to be banned from holding tournaments due to fan behaviour.
Yet nothing about the Ukrainian fans (IIRC) doing Nazi salutes getting them banned.
But it wouldn't surprise me if UEFA sees Ukraine as a par of Russia

I don’t think they are either but I didn’t have people of any other nation telling me I “ought to support England” and accusing me of “jealousy” when I said I wasn’t on board with that.

Re: Euro 2020: England Reach Final
I prefer it when England don't win at football and it's all to do with fans, they are the worst of British not the best, one of my colleagues has a fist sized dent in his car suffered at traffic lights from fans celebrating the semi final win, not to mention how insufferable it would have been for months, we're still banging on about '66 55 years later when most of the team are dead and most of us weren't born, plus from a club perspective because of the big club bias shown by past managers any decent young player was soon asking to leave because he couldn't get in the national team

I think it was very unfair on Saka to have to take the 5th penalty. The more senior players should have fronted up and taken one.

Jack Grealish says this morning he offered to take one, don't understand why Southgate would snub a more experienced player choice to take one, over Saka at 19 is less experienced.

Hopefully, the online harms Act will prevent online harassment of those in minority groups.

Re: Euro 2020: England Reach Final
The online abuse and abusing of these black players, is wholly unacceptable, yeah, I am not very happy the last 3 missed their penalties but the fundamental principle remains, it is just a game, I am not going to have some psychotic break over our nations loss, no one should feel any need to resort to name calling based on old prejudices which links to the colour of ones skin.

Re: Euro 2020: England Reach Final
If they (and the media) stopped giving the racists/abusers constant attention they would simply fade away.
They love the attention & limelight, and right now they are getting absolutely tons of it.
Stop taking the bloody knee, stop making a huge fuss about it [complaining about it to the press] - simply turn on your word filters and ignore them.
Once they realise they are no longer getting constant attenion and reactions, they will get bored and move on.

Agreed. I wonder if taking the knee every game has amplified the racists to be more aggressive, strike harder than before, than be passive, like the old England player, John Barnes said this morning, while being interviewed, it is not the job of the sport of football to tackle the issue of racism, and that it is a societal issue.

I totally agree with him, he speaks a lot of sense does John Barnes. These BLM people have orchestrated it to be the case that if you don't wholeheartedly support them, then you must be racist or believe that black lives don't matter.
Besides, I don't see why racism should be singled out for special attention. There are a wide number of disadvantaged groups who suffer from discrimination, harassment etc. Just singling one group out implies that racism is somehow worse than any other form of oppression & is in itself a form of indirect discrimination.
