Re: Films to see in 2021

Yeah, it is the trailer they should have released to start off with. It may be a coincidence but it is funny how it address a lot of the questions people have been asking/moaning about.

Very positive review of Dune in the Telegraph (doesn’t appear to be behind a paywall).

“Dune” director Denis Villeneuve is still bothered that his latest sci-fi epic will premiere day-and-date in theaters and HBO Max, saying that his film was made for the big screen and not for televisions.

Villeneuve in a new interview with Total Film said that the pandemic is the “enemy of the cinema” and acknowledged the “tremendous pressure” that the industry is under, but he doubled down on some of his previous comments about the film’s move to streaming.

“The way it happened, I’m still not happy. Frankly, to watch ‘Dune’ on a television, the best way I can compare it is to drive a speedboat in your bathtub,” Villeneuve said in an interview published Tuesday. “For me, it’s ridiculous. It’s a movie that has been made as a tribute to the big-screen experience.”

Re: Films to see in 2021

Which is nonsense really. Many people now have tvs 55 inches or more. Or even home projectors.

It not like we are going to be watching on a 28inch crt.

Well mine are 48 and 50 inch, but yeah, not quite the small 28/32 of a few years ago.

Re: Films to see in 2021

Personally, I still prefer the actual cinema. Huge screen, great audio set-up and no distractions. It still feels special to walk into a theatre with a great big imposing screen.

but how many people have got surround systems they can be proud of. I have got a massive Sony TV, cinema projector and Bose surround sound system (which sounds amazing) but it still doesn't beat the cinema experience. I would argue that if you was going to make the effort to see one film at the cinema this year that it should be this one. The cinematography is going to phenomenal.

Re: Films to see in 2021

Not as manly have surround sound setups. I've got an AV amp and quite a good setup but I know some people who aren't that bothered.

I still like the cinema too but since covid more people would rather watch films at home than go out to a cinema.

Re: Films to see in 2021

It was the busiest I have seen it in a long time for Shang Chi yesterday. I would say it was half full which isn't bad at all for a Friday lunchtime when everyone is at work or at school. I hope things pick up because films like Shang Chi and Dune deserve to do well. I think Shang Chi is going to get a massive boost from the Chinese market.
