Re: Formula 1 2009 Season
Ferrai International Rescue strikes again.
So if one driver has enough wins with 7 races to go the season is over and what is the point of teams racing?
Bernies buggering up up as usual.

Re: Formula 1 2009 Season
Well the point is, what is the point in the slower cars even racing if they have no chance of winning? This is the dumbest idea ive heard in a long time.
I know it's all about provoking overtaking and such but it seems these days you get penalised for overtaking....

Re: Formula 1 2009 Season
A common problem with overtaking is that the car in front has a heavier fuel load and often makes it more difficult for a faster car to get past them.
It would now be possible to win the championship with 3/4 wins and not to have to even finish any other race whereas someone who finished 2nd in every race wouldn't count for anything.

Re: Formula 1 2009 Season
it's a really bad idea as all of the money comes from the contructors points anyway and that is still based on the old system so the teams all care more about that than the drivers championship so they won't want the drivers to risk all for a win and crash out

Re: Formula 1 2009 Season
How can, supposedly, clever people frack it up so monumentally.
Here's my idea which is far better than theirs.
If you want wins to count then at the end of the season you award 12 points to the driver with most wins and then 8 points to the next and so on.
Thereby keeping the points system that rewards reliability and consistancy but also adds a reward for winning the most races.
What do think? Bernie & Max should give me a job.

AKA "the Trulli train"!
On a separate note, had this been in force a few seasons ago, a certain M. Schumacher would have been champion after the British Grand Prix in 2004.

Re: Formula 1 2009 Season
Bernie isn't interested in Formula 1 from a racing point of view, he's more bothered about how to bring in more viewers and the resulting revenue. Let's see what happens. If the WDC is settled after race nine or ten I can see a serious drop off of people watching the race. Then we'll see what Bernie does. Sorry, don't usually insult people that i've not met, but Bernie really is a short arse berk who's living in cloud cuckoo land.

Re: Formula 1 2009 Season
Is anyone running a poll or protest?
The "Wins count for everything" system will be a real pain for teams with two drivers that could be in with a shout, or when the lead driver ends up having to rest for the remainder of the season.
The 12-9-654321 system (actually, I'd go for 12-8-654321) makes a lot more sense, or even a return to the old 10-6-4321.

Re: Formula 1 2009 Season
After thinking about it a bit bit more, there's another problem with the new points/wins system. If the WDC is settled a long way before the end of the season(I reckon that't a certainty), then where is the motivation for drivers to puch for a race win, they aren't going to get anything out of it. The constructors championship isn't a motivation because that will probably have been decided as well.

Re: Formula 1 2009 Season
Don't the teams get money(from FIA) for each point that they win, so taking part is still a good thing even if they've already won the team championship.

They do. but I just can't see the motivation. Settle for second or risk your car taking itself out of the race?

You mean the same money that is then claimed back for the FIA super licene that increases the more points a driver won last season

The driver also has to pay 1k for each point they get.

Re: Formula 1 2009 Season
Added a who will win the drivers championship poll that will close in 9 days (day before the first race) You have one option and it is a public poll so we'll see who got it right or wrong
---------- Post added at 10:24 ---------- Previous post was at 10:23 ----------
I voted Kubica I think he's got a lot of talent and the field will be less dominated by Mclaren/Ferrari this year
