Loading generic firmware onto Virgin WGR614v9
Hi all,
I want to install the generic Netgear firmware onto a WGR614v9 router supplied to me by Virgin Media. The modified firmware (by Virgin) however prevents you from loading the generic firmware onto it.
The reason I want to do this is to perhaps solve a problem I'm having with the router as described in this post.
I have tried the steps (burnboardid) in this post but it still says that an invalid file has been specified...
Any other ideas people?
Adam

Re: Loading generic firmware onto Virgin WGR614v9
I've heard that some people have managed to do it using the steps in the guide that i referred to, therefore it has to be possible somehow?

There is a couple of ways to update netgear routers using non-standard firmware but as the router is owned by VM it would be against your current T&C's to do it..

The is every chance you will brick the router and you will have breached the T&C's in doing so, if you want a router to play with then purchase one.

I'm not that bothered about terms and conditions. I just want to put the generic firmware on this router because the VM one is old and is giving me a hard time! If VM would update the firmware then I wouldn't be having to do this.

Do you know how you did it then? Could you perhaps point me in the right direction? Would be much appreciated. I'm fairly sure the latest firmware would fix my problem

Re: Loading generic firmware onto Virgin WGR614v9
if ur using vista try with Admin authorisation. If using Xp make sure u have Telent enabled. Or even try a different Telent software.
try changing you Ip address to a manual address, not automatically configured!

I read that you treat it like a bricked router and use an ap available on the netgear site to flash to stock firmware
