Which is better Sky Q or Sky+?

After having no TV for a nearly a month and Virgin Media pissing about/ignoring attempts to contact them, i'm now looking into other providers.

I've been advised that new installs are now Sky Q only. I've seen various posts that say that Sky+ is better, so may source my own box if it is. I have no need for any boxes in other rooms or for 4K. Besides the extra boxes and 4K, what are the main differences please?

Is this still true ?

You can wave goodbye to the text-heavy user interface if you upgrade to the Sky Q box.
Its a major reason I dont care about changing to Q.

I don't know why, but I thought that you'd changed your TV over to VM. Have you ever had VM TV? If so, what are your thoughts on both services?

Re: Which is better Sky Q or Sky+?

I've had Q now for 3 years. Its a decent service and the box is fast. The UI is very picture based and not much text. I love it.

That and the mini boxes for other rooms connect by WiFi to the main box. So no cables having to be installed. Also all recordings are stored on the main stb. The mini boxes stream recordings off it.

To add to that, if you have Sky broadband, then the mini boxes also double to create a mesh network which seems to work quite well. We've got 3 mini boxes 1 connected by WiFi and 2 by network cable (because most of the house is cat 6'd so seems a shame not to use it).

We had it for 8 months (a few years ago) but hated the image based UI, so went back to Sky+ HD.

Great time to switch. They are offering some fantastic Black Friday deals just now.

I've finally got a new box from VM just hours before I was due to cancel my direct debit citing breach of contract, but thank you for this link, it is appreciated.

Also, thanks to everyone that's given their advice. It hasn't been in vain as I shall be reviewing my options upon expiration of my contract. The way that I (and many others too) have been treated is unforgivable.

Richard, robbing pensioners is unforgivable, rape is unforgivable - not having broadband or TV is annoying, or an inconvenience.

Perspective is important...

If you read some of the complaints to see how abysmal the service has become, there are tales of very elderly or ill people being left without services. They have been left unable to contact carers, relatives etc.

One of the saddest was someone who was terminally ill, even this didn't prompt a response through the usual channels.

I have been a Sky customer for over 25 years, I have just swapped from Sky+. To Sky Q.

I’m just getting used to the new interface. It’s alright.

The big difference for me was that I had 2 Sky+ box’s feeding 4 TVs. But now I have 1 Sky Q and 3 slave boxes and the boxes all work independently which is great, all in HD.

Due to the size and construction of my house I have experienced a few connection issues but they are rare. Mixed in with SkyGo App and I think on the whole it’s very good.

Re: Which is better Sky Q or Sky+?

I'm also about to jump ship to Sky Q next month. I'm now in a position where I can save a couple of ££ a month (sans the install fee) moving across as I was on a legacy package with Sky+. Now that UHD has been decoupled from multi-room which I don't need! So was a bit of a no brainer. I can report back on how I find it!
