Brings a new meaning to the heavy plant crossing signs...

I thought the old radio four dramatisation was excellent, perhaps they should re-broadcast that too.

NOw this is one i just can't wait for Just read it on the BBC site. Not only one of the classic books, radio broadcast and series. With modern technology at their fingertips, i think this may just be another classic "well fingers crossed" Just hope they do the casting and script right.

I always did hope somene would eventually. do a few of his other classics. "Kraken wakes" for example. If you have never read a John Wyndham book, do so

Watching this on BBC1 now. I've only just started watching it, but it looks like the Beeb have done a good job.. Good cast, good special effects, good script, good story..

Pretty good although it does seem like a Survivor clone. I can't take Eddie Izzard seriously as the baddie though, he's hamming it up too much.

re: Day of the Triffids

It is an interesting take on the original. But like the 50's one a bit wide of the mark with regards the book. Still I guess it had to be modernised a bit.

I do, however, await tomorrow nights with interest

As I understand it (and I've never read the book, so don't know if this is right), they've taken the premise (and basic plot) from the book, but based a new story on that premise and plot.

After all, they didn't even *have* the concept of biofuels when the book was written..

Yup - and it's already better than the 50's one

The only one I've not listened to now is the 2000 radio version.

re: Day of the Triffids

I always thought the strongest aspect of the Triffids book was the mass blindness. The killer plants stuff always seemed pretty silly and pointless to me, as the world would deteriorate just fine without them. 28 Days Later took that idea and did something far better with it I think.

The new adaptation does indeed take liberties with the book, mostly adding a lot more action and removing the sense of desolation. I thought it was pretty well done, and the cast was good (except for Eddie Izzard, who is a great stand up but a terrible actror). Looked expensive too, I imagine deals are in place with US, CA, AU TV networks etc.

I agree, they certainly seemed to use 'international' expressions at times.

Re: Day of the Triffids

It's a good story although somewhat done to death over the years. What is the score so far? Two major movies, Three or Four TV adaptations?

I'm enjoying this latest effort although I feel the whole thing descends into the realm of the rediculous every time a Triffid comes into shot.

Come on Guys, come up with a convincing Triffid, you've surely had enough practice at it by now.

Personally I think it is "the walking/shuffling" that lets them down. I think a static plant that can propagate like wildfire via windbourne spores, with the ability to establish itself almost anywhere, lamp posts, walls etc, a bit like Ivy does. Rather than a whip lash I think a dart might be a better vehicle for the sting.
