Simple question I hope. My cable modem is upstairs and our router is attached to it using a 1.5m lead which was supplied with the router. I'd like to move the router to the adjoining room to try to improve the household coverage and am wondering if I can just use a longer cable? I already have a 10m? long grey ethernet cable running into that room (through a small hole in the wall) which I used to use for connecting our old non wi-fi pc direct to the cable modem. That's no longer required so could I use this same cable to connect between the router and the modem or is a different type required? Also, is there a maximum suitable length for a cable which is being used for this purpose?

We use a 30m lead between router in front room and router in study. Second router acts as a wireless access point.
So your setup sounds fine.
