Unhappy NTL 250 modem versus wireless internet access

Hi there.

I am new to the forum and really have no clue about all things IT, so please can one of you lovely people help me out?!

We have an old cable modem from NTL ( ntl:250). It is connected to our pc via the USB port.

I bought a D-Link DI-524 router yesterday as I would like to go wireless. However, I cannot get the router WAN port working.....

I've followed the instructions on the cd and am getting no where!

Am I right in guessing that I cannot use a USB connection whilst trying to implement the new ethernet cable? If this is the case, I seem to be stumped becuase as soon as I pull out the USB cable, the internet connection ceases!

Please can someone tell me what to do?

I apologise if this post is rambling or a common one- I'm just a bit lost!

Many thanks

Re: NTL 250 modem versus woreless internet access

Unplug both the router and the modem from the wall. Unplug the USB and plug the ethernet into the router and then power the modem on first. Let the lights settle and then plug the PC in and switch it on.

That should reset the modem to move from one output to another!

Good luck with that, didn't think the 250's were old though

I've got that router too, it should work fine when you connect the ethernet cable.
