Network ID

Hey guys, was wondering if a networking guru can look over the following please and tell me what one is correct??

(A)

IP Address = 198.168.1.5

Subnet Mask = 255.255.240.0

IP 1100 0110 . 1010 1000 . 0000|0001 . 0000 0101

SM 1111 1111 . 1111 1111 . 1111|0000 . 0000 0000

NI 1100 0110. 1010 1000 . 0000|0000 . 0000 0000

Network ID = 198.168.0.0

Or is it....

(B)

IP 1100 0110 . 1010 1000 . 0000|0001 . 0000 0101

SM 1111 1111 . 1111 1111 . 1111|0000 . 0000 0000

NI 1100 0110. 1010 1000 . 1111|0000 . 0000 0000

Network ID = 192.168.240.0

Thanks

Re: Network ID

A

on a 20 bit mask (255.255.240.0) your network would range from 192.168.0.1 through 192.168.15.254.
NI would therefore be 192.168.0.0
Broadcast would be 192.168.15.255
192.168.1.5 falls in this range

192.168.0.0/20 allowing 4094 hosts

Re: Network ID

Thanks very much, really appreciate you taking the time.

I was becoming confused of when to use the Boolean Or Logic, I believe it is always Boolean And logic for the network ID??
