Router

Can someone please recommend a good router for Plusnet Fiber Optic/BT Infinity broadband.

The Technicolor TG582n router that I currently have loses around 5Mb when I use my laptop downstairs (the router and modem is upstairs).

Thanks

Why not just put some wireless extenders?

Re: Router

The technicolor router is pretty much only good to prop a door open (and its a bit light for that job). It makes the superhub look like the fiest bit of kit ever made.

We use Netgear DGN2200v4 routers instead. £50 or so but a decent bit of kit.

Re: Router

DIR-615 is the cheapest bet but requires custom firmware to make the most of it.

Lots of people recommend more expensive routers like Asus and Linksys that work well out of the box but IMO they're overpriced when you can get all the features on a much cheaper device with a bit of tweaking.

My recommendation goes to the TL-WDR4300.

Re: Router

Basically anything is better than the technicolor router.

The DIR-615 should work (as should any ethernet/"cable" router).

Is the TL-WDR4300 'plug and play' with Plusnet Fiber Optic broadband or do I have to use a custom firmware?

Re: Router

Plug and play with most ISPs.

Not really sure how Plusnet's service work but as long as it's not some proprietary fud like Sky it'll be fine.
