F1 back on BBC next season.

The BBC has just announced it has signed an EXCLUSIVE 5 year deal to broadcast all F1 motor races on TV and Radio, starting next year.
No details of the cost of the deal have been released.

I've only one thing to say to ITV and its take you coverage and stick it.

BBC / BBC HD no adverts and that famous tune (end of Fleetwood Mas "The Chain")

I would love to see the Great Murray Walker doing the First GP.

---------- Post added at 09:02 ---------- Previous post was at 08:50 ----------

Bernie was moaning about the Aussie G and that it should be a night race. As europe has to get up in the early hours.

Now its going home to BBC, I don't care what time they show it.

Also apparently Bernie Approached BBC to cover it, and ITV said that next season it had withdrawn coverage.

Did ITV jump or were they pushed.

I heard Bernie had terminated ITV's contract.

The reason that ITV waited a long time before broadcasting F1 in Stereo and Widescreen is that the cameras in each race are operated by the local broadcaster, and the broadcasters in the other countries simply take that feed, rather than using their own cameras. Not all broadcasters had equipment capable of transmitting widescreen stereo.

I suspect the same is true of HD.

Great news - least won't have to put up with '.... and you just missed an amazing...' after every (far too frequent) commerical break

Re: F1 back on BBC next season.

I'm glad it's back on the BBC, if only to rid of the oh so annoying adverts every 15 mins or so. And I'd certainly guess it will be in HD (where the tracks have hd cameras installed)as the BBC already broadcasts on the BBC HD 24/7 anyways, even if a lot of footage is program advertising.

Dont really know why Bernie Ecclestone is moaning about having more night races to make it more european viewer time friendly!. If it bothers him that much then why have a Singapore and Australian GP in the first place?. Sure, I did'nt like getting up at 3.30 last sunday morning. But I'd sooner that than see half empty stands in Australia due to the stupid time he wants the race to start there!.

Great news, they should try and get hold of Martin Brundle IMHO.

Re: F1 back on BBC next season.

I didn't think ITV's coverage was bad, it was just the bloody adverts every 15 minutes that was annoying, so it's great news it's back on the BBC

Brundle's a proven commentator now - and I'd like to hope that Murray Walker might be there again too.

Re: F1 back on BBC next season.

In the old days the Beeb used to broadcast a few minutes before the race started, completely ignored practice sessions etc.

I hope they take on board the things that ITV got right, such as 45 minutes to an hour of build up on race day and decent coverage of practice sessions.

They could lose the pit lane walk though, interviewing so called celebs, and other hangers on.

Jim.
