Downloading through router?

So i am using a wireless router to download big files and when i get a good speed it just cuts the net off and my connection loses connection. So i tryed the main Ethernet lead coming straight from the router to my mothers laptop and it works fine . So i am thinking there could be something wrong with the router?

I have a Belkin Wireless Cable G Router 54Mbps + 4 Port 10/100 Switch, a basic router and it used to handle my 2Mb (250kbs) easily but lately its been losing connection when i get a good speed and also since i got upgraded to 10Mb it just losses connection even more any ideas?

What is the model of the router? I'm thinking it's probably an older one which probably means the WAN port is a 10MBit port so it's struggling to keep up with the throughput required (especially if it's 10MBit Half Duplex) but those are just assumptions without knowing what model it is

My router is a Belkin Wireless G Router F5D7230-4 - Wireless router - 802.11b, 802.11g

My Wireless network card is a Belkin Wireless G Desktop Card F5D7000

What do you mean 10Mb half duplex. Sorry ime a noob

i have this router it's a nightmare only way i could get it to work is to Disable the password and to use the MAC Address Filtering to stop people from using my Connection that includes updating the Firmware
