Re: Hub 5 at no extra cost

Would anybody who has received the email be able to copy the URL and paste it either in this forum or PM me as i'd be interested to see if anybody who hasn't been invited is able to join/register to get a hub 5.

Many Thanks

So far the GUI is the same as the hub 3, hub looks physically for a hub. Awaiting to see more in depth tests

That's already been tried over on the Community Forum. It won't work as it checks your account for the invite eligibility.

Re: Hub 5 at no extra cost

Very interesting that it seems it's a Sagemcom device, especially when people were shouting down criticisms of the hub4 only having 1GbE with "They had to stick with Arris!"

Hub3 and Hub4 were available in other LG territories before hitting the UK, let this one seems to have come out of left field and hit the UK before anywhere else. I do wonder if this is perhaps based on an O2 relationship with Sagemcom or something?

Re: Hub 5 at no extra cost

Received the Hub 5 yesterday. I just set it up, connected directly to my computer via network cable. It's giving slightly better speeds, and it's now on DOCSIS 3.1.

The router's VM-brand settings software looks exactly like Hub 3's, running so much faster and smoother with no lag.

Here's the readings...

Re: Hub 5 at no extra cost

So at least for now it looks like the upstream is still using DOCSIS 3.0.

Not that I think much will change, but if you have a BQM on the hub 3, would be good to see how it now looks

Is the HUB 5 any better for WifI than the Hub 3?

Yeah VM can't switch to D3.1 up until they get rid of all the D3.0 modems.

D3.1 upstream before that would be possible for Gig1 and higher though i.e. where customers have guaranteed kit that supports it.

However from previous comments I've seen around online, D3.1 upstream is a significant amount of investment so would need to be commercially viable.

Surely in order to do that you'd need to free up some bandwidth by turning off some of the d3.0 upstream channels though? So you'd need a good chunk of the customers off d3.0 based services.

Hopefully where there are people still clinging to SH2AC where they have concerns about the Puma chipset in the SH3/4, they should be up for moving to the SH5.

It would be nice to see a d3.1 business service sometime soon as well.

Virgin Media didn't have to do that for downstream, so I wasn't aware it would be needed for upstream.

Anyone with a SH2ac will have a service that doesn't need a Hub 3 or Hub 4, so they'd only be moved over as part of an upgrade or as part of the move of the home phone over the the Hub based service. The network management offer of a Hub 4 isn't forced.

That would apply for the Hub 5 too.

Yeah I wasn't expecting forced, I just mean the reluctance (from customers) to move away from the SH2AC might shrink.

I was basing the upload stuff on this post on ISPreview:

For anyone with a Hub 5 please create and post a BMQ graph.
