How often do you take your car for a service?
Hi all,
I realise that you have to legally have an MOT every year but as for a service, how often do you take your car for one?
I've just had my MOT, had new tyres put on and new brake pads/Discs.
I really feel like I could leave it for another year and do a service then instead.
What do you all do?
Thanks.

Re: How often do you take your car for a service?
I take mine in when the car tells me on the dash, which used to be every 12 months at the time of the MOT with all my previous cars.
With my 4 year old Audi A3 the service interval is every 24 months so I will still need to get the MOT done and I was told the brake fluid was due for a change in 12 months the last time I took it for the service, so whatever happens in 12 months time I've got an MOT and brake fluid change.

Service and MOT at the same place, same day.

Re: How often do you take your car for a service?
I'm wondering if half of the service is what would have been done in the MOT.
I also had my oil changed in June so am wondering what else I'd really need it for.
Money is tight these days so if I don't need it, I'd much rather save some money.

Service and MOT done together so every 12 months. If you want to save money, find a good 'local' garage (one that'll stamp your service book )and don't go to main dealer unless you need to.
These last couple of years we've done so few miles the service isn't really needed but the book want's a stamp every 12 months so it gets a stamp every 12 months.

Newer cars unfortunately don't have paper service books as I don't on my 4 year old Audi.

We had grief off our main dealer (Vauxhall) for going to our local garage and they used to scrutinise every bit of the service record trying to find fault so they could side step the very good 10 year warranty. They eased off a bit when we reminded them of the Block Exemption regulations, essentially you can't force someone to use the dealership to maintain a warranty. Our current dealer (Peugeot) are a bit techy about it as well but we have successfully invoked the warranty twice so far (cos Peugeot car parts are seemingly made of meringue and polystyrene) despite always using the local garage for servicing.
To answer the OP, we also get MOT done at same time as service yearly.

My second car ,hasn't been serviced for 3 years ,garage that does its MOT keeps telling me not to waste my money , it simply doesn't need one. A garage that doesn't want to take my money !

It's not just main dealers who can stamp electronic service books, Mrs G's MX5 hasn't been to a Mazda dealer for a few years but the book is all up to date .

Depends how old the car and whether it under a warranty and how much mileage you do. My 9 year old car gets an oil change every year, but not much more unless needed. Anything safety wise will be picked up by an MOT.

Once per year, on a pre-paid [monthly] plan.

I used to think it had to go back to the main dealer and when I found out I leapt at the chance to go elswhere. A lot cheaper. An MOT was nearly £60 compared to £28 at my local garage.

Yeah I'm thinking along the lines that if it is in good running order, passes it's MOT and you are keeping it in good shape (oil, tyres, etc) then every year is not needed.

Bought second hand from main Ford Dealer. Fiesta, 2018.
Runs fine and had all tyres replaced, oil change, and had MOT last week.

I tend to get a full service every 12 months with a 'mini' service half way between them. You look after the car and the car will look after you.
