Sky- intergrated IPTV,Satalite receiver, media streaming STB.

With news of Sky buying in to Roku and Sky also releasing NowTV, and the coming integration of Zeebox does anyone else think perhaps a new super STB maybe on the horizon from Sky?

It makes a lot of sense an everything is in place for it to happen?
Sky wouldn't need deals with other services eg Netflix , love film as they have plenty of content already. With planner sharing a household would only need 1 PVR and the multi room boxes need only be on the home network. So bassically 1 PVR and 2 or 3 Sky branded Roku type devices with sat tuners built in would be all that would be needed.

IMO that is not really what Sky is about. They are for the mass market and probably want to keep things as simple as possible.

I guess only time will tell but it's something I would definately purchase. As for Sky keeping it simple this is no longer important to sky surely, what with the coming zeebox intergration, all the different apps, skygo, Sky now sees customers understand technology and are connected.

Most of Sky's technological advances have been on content delivery. Its apps are optional and its up to customers to use them or not. So the STB had stayed simple so far as was shown by the EPG upgrade.

The STB will remain easy to use , the extra functionality will be added to the iPad app in my opinion.

I hope they keep the STB simple an fast because the more gets added the more things will slow down. Second screen is the way forward now giving fast access to extra content without disrupting main screen content.

Nothing worse than having to put your main content in a tiny 9 inch screen up in the corner whilst waiting for the STB to load the information you want. Second screen/ companion apps are hopefully the direction Sky will continue to take an keep leading the way.
