Re: Wireless Router Problems

Presumably you have rebooted the cable modem once you connected everything up?

Re: Wireless Router Problems

power everything off - then power on again in teh following order - cable modem - router - pc (leaving a bit of time between each). The router should then by visible to PC and you can carry on from there)

Re: Wireless Router Problems

Every time you change (swap) the device that is directly connected to the modem by ethernet, or USB, be that a computer, games console or router, the modem needs to be powered off, for a few seconds, then powered up again. Once the modem has powered up then the device connected to it can be powered on.

Only one device can be directly connected to the modem. If you computer is connected by USB you need to unplug that before you connect the router by ethernet.

Re: Wireless Router Problems

I've turned it off for 10 minutes, restarted Laptop, connected the wire's in the order it says, turned the router on, the "Power" light, the number "1" and "Wireless" light comes on, but the Cd says there should be one more on, the "Internet" one.

Re: Wireless Router Problems

How do you currently (without the router) connect your computer to the modem, ethernet cable or USB?

Re: Wireless Router Problems

Talk Talk

Are you not using Virgin Media Cable Broadband? The WRT54GR does not include an inbuilt modem and thus can only be used with a separate modem. If you have Talk Talk you are using a BT type ADSL phone line broadband, the router's for which normally include modems.

Re: Wireless Router Problems

hmm so you have it like this

BT type ADSL phone line <>WAN-talk talk router-eth1<>WAN-WRT54GR-wireless router

you then ethernet plug your PCs into the LAN ports of the WRT54GR-wireless router.... or more likely
connect wirelessly to the new WRT54GR-wireless router in the chain....

eather the "talk talk router" OR the "WRT54GR-wireless router" is giving out your LAN IP address to your PCs, YOU CANT HAVE BOTH set for DHCPd use, or it gets messy, turn one DHCPd off and/or use fixed IPs 192.168.0.* and netmask 0f 255.255.255.0 ,set the gateway for/to the "talk talk router" LAN IP, and the secondary DNS to whatever the talk talk ISP DNS is, or use the open DNS ip.
