A waste of space. It just mirrored the similar channel on Sky but none of the BBC SD regions were closed on Freeview, so there was nothing to tell the viewers.

Quite. Given the wording wasn't of specific use to DTT, telling them their HD version of BBC1 was finally getting replaced with a regionalised version, having something that was clearly designed for another platform woukd just be plain confusing to many I'd imagine.

They'd have been better with a pop-up message on Freeview Ch 101 saying they woukd get regional content from a certain date and may need to retune. As far as I know there was no pop-up message.

I also find it frustrating that I have to go to Freeview for London Live. A few years ago LL expanded their coverage to include Reigate, Redhill & Crawley to the south of the M25, & Hemel Hempstead, St. Albans & Watford to the north.

However the channel remains unavailable from VMs Hemel headend, meaning Hemel & St. Albans can only get it on Freeview, as VM still refuse to supply it outside the M25 to the North of London. Customers in Watford have always had it, as it has always been available from the former Jones Cable headend in the town.

Useful information. I always wondered if Virgin had followed suit when London Live was added to the Hemel Hempstead transmitter, clearly not.

Re: Freeview changes

Here is some Freeview information base on RAW information given to me by a Media Boy UK Source.

*Arqiva will have NEW capacity to use after a multiplex upgrade at also set to happen later this year (Not one that free right now on SDN or COM6 - one of them will soon be use by Wild Earth).

*Arqiva has signed broadcasting deal with yet unknown numbers of broadcasters for TWO HD Channels to launch FROM November 2023 in new capacity to come online later this year.

At the moment, only BBC B is configured for HD on Freeview. If Arqiva plans to add HD channels on Freeview, they will need to concert one of their multiplexes to DVB-T2. To invest in such an upgrade, they would need to be certain that the multiplex has a guaranteed future. However, the proposed COM licence extensions come with an option to revoke the licence after 2030 if the frequencies are needed elsewhere. I doubt that Arqiva would make a significant investment with such uncertainty, even though their new backers are keen to keep Freeview running well beyond 2030.

Re: Freeview changes

Sounds like it might be the end for Ideal World.

It does surprise me that there seems to be room for only one general TV shopping channel but maybe in the current internet-first world I shouldn't be surprised.
