I often call the specialists to do the fixing for me. I'd rather pay to a professional then mess everything up.

Bulb in the oven had blown. Pack of two from B&Q this morning for £4. Just fitted one. The oven is around 35 years old and has had several replacement elements over that time but the bulb had kept going.

Re: What have you fixed lately?
Two pub style table umbrellas at my sisters. On each one of the struts had broken due to being up when windy. The struts are hollow aluminium section with provision for LEDs and that had caused a weakness. I'd measured it up last time I was over there and got some 10mm square aluminium tube that is a snug fit inside the existing section. Cut two pieces to length and secured them by drilling through both sections and using a pop rivet to prevent the tube moving. As the strut is under compression when up there was no need to put in a second rivet.
Slid the sections back together. Re-fitted the LEDs into their holes and put the end back into the pocket in the shroud. Job done.

Re: What have you fixed lately?
Drain pipes inside a kitchen unit that serve the sink and dishwasher and then go out through the outside wall to a gully. Both were draining slowly so I pulled out all the pipework. Ugh! Horrid gungy half emulsified grease everywhere. Spent an hour with a bottle style long brush, rubber gloves and lashings of hot soapy water. Finally got all the stinky muck out.
Reassembled and now drains fine. Seems leak free for the moment.

Wrap some toilet roll round the joints - easy way to check for leaks.

Re: What have you fixed lately?
Never put any fat down your sink and use a dish washer cleaner every 3 months.
I put my old used oil or fat in an empty plastic 4 litre milk bottle put into 2 plastic bags and take to the tip with other stuff. Why don't supermarkets have recycling for all the oils they sell.

Re: What have you fixed lately?
boat toilet,it stopped drawing in river water for the flush, fitted new service kit and it flushes like a good un.
also had low oil pressure on boat engine after changing oil using mannol oil [it's garbage]. Got some Morris 20w50 golden film oil and wooohoo oil pressure back to normal ,engine runs like a swiss watch.

Re: What have you fixed lately?
Washer dryer displaying 0e last night at half ten, looked up the error, unable to drain… checked the drain hose nothing coming out, tried to manually drain and it was just a trickle. So, unscrewed the filter, removed it and alongside a torrent of water came out a dog poop bag with dog treats inside it…… mopped up all the water, clean and reinsert filter, reattached drain hose everything sorted. Spent an hour glaring at SWMBO, but in a freak turn of events it turns out to be my fault for buying a washer dryer that can’t cope with a poo bag full of treats in it

Re: What have you fixed lately?
Just fixed my PS5 Dualsense controller severe stick drift, I had left it too long to contact Sony as that is a huge hassle, but I bought some WD40 Contact Cleaner and squirted loads the best I could around the affected stick hoping a little would get to the affected place.
I was very surprised it worked first time and it is now usable again, just hope it's a lasting fix as it is a pain to dismantle.

Annoyingly contact cleaner only worked for 30mins before the drift returned, I may have to try my luck dismantling it if it's cost effective after buying the toolsl
