Re: Renewals & Cancellations
yeah, just saw. https://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/m...ix-series-but/
I sort of expected it to happen-ish given the new Disney streaming platform etc. I know we discussed this a while back but Netflix were adamant it was their IP and they were going to plough on with it. I suppose it is inevitable that Jessica Jones will follow suit but I don't understand why they are mucking about announcing them a few weeks at a time. They know they are going to do it so why not just say "we are ending out partnership with Marvel and the tv universe as it currently stands".?

Marvel have released a statement which shows you may be right General.
Quote:
“Marvel is extremely grateful to the huge audience that loved Marvel’s Daredevil. From the moment of young Matt’s first act of heroism to the birth of Page, Murdock, & Nelson, it has been an unbelievable journey. We are incredibly proud of the amazing showrunners and writers starting with Drew Goddard and Steven DeKnight, Marco Ramirez and Doug Petrie and Erik Oleson, Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Vincent D’Onofrio and our casts who brought our characters to life with such excellence, and every one of the fantastic crews in NYC. We look forward to more adventures with the Man without Fear in the future.”

Re: Renewals & Cancellations
yeah, putting a couple of quotes together:
Quote:
Disney, announced next year’s launch of Disney+, a direct rival to Netflix that will have Marvel Studios content as a flagship in its formidable armada.
Disney will also be withdrawing its past and present content from Netflix in the months ahead.
Marvel has indicated we haven’t seen the last of Matt Murdoch, despite the Netflix cancellation, so let’s hope Cox gets a chance to revisit the role.

Re: Renewals & Cancellations
While not exactly a surprise, the BBC renewed Doctor Who for season 12, with all the current cast returning. It will not air until 2020 (spring most likely).

Certainly isn't a surprise considering the following in the US and that is huge.

Amazing how for around 16 years it totally disappeared from our TV screens apart from the repeats.

Not seen the latest series, out of protest really at the decision to have a female doctor.

Yes, it really beggared belief that a woman could play a twin-hearted two thousand year old alien life form who could regenerate multiple times...

I believe once the novelty of a woman doctor wears off and the viewers dip to unacceptable levels the makers will have to think again. Let's just hope they don't decide the doctor should be a dog or an ape!

In the context of the show, yes it did pretty much begger belief.
It made no sense at all given the show history over the previous 50 years and was just just done as a gimmick to pander to the SJW/PC brigade. Of course, they had to "prepare" us - and write it into a few previous episodes to make it all "official".
Regardless of all this, since it was a done deal and fans had no say, I, like many decided to give it a chance anyway. I mean, how bad could it be ?
Was it a disaster - not really, it wasnt as bad as that, but nor was it that good either.
The "doctor" is just a blabbering useless character with a sonic - who could be removed from pretty much every episode without affecting them much. The sidekicks outshine her everytime. Some of the episodes were average, some were poor, or worse. None were worthy of comparison to some of the greats.
As someone mentioned to be the other week, if you were in trouble on an alien world, and could choose either this doctor, or Sarah Jane Smith to help you - who would you pick. I would go for SJS everytime. She would have made a far better "Doctor".
Similarly, if you could pick any of the doctors to help you, would you pick this one ? I would not.

Re: Renewals & Cancellations
I am perhaps more invested as regards Dr. Who as I was (luckily) allowed to see the first episode live, that's the way it was when I was a kid.
As I grew older I accepted he other Doctors but then was dropped in WHEN?
Any Dr. Who fans out there have to accept it is for the American market IMHO.

You are, of course, assuming the viewer levels will dip. They may do, and I am sure the BBC will have discussions of what to do if that happens. However, you may find that the fans put off by a female doctor are more than adequately replaced by new fans who feel they can identify with a female doctor more.
I don't actually care whether the doctor is male or female, as long as the stories are good (with well written characters) and they are acted well.
You may say that's as a result of the increasing political correctness of the show, but I don't think it is. I've watched Doctor Who since I was about 7 (which would be around the start of the Tom Baker era), and I never even thought about the gender of the doctor. With each regeneration, I've often known little about the actors, so had no real expecations, and tried to keep an open mind.
Besides, until the new series, the Doctor never really did anything that was particularly gender specific anyway. Yes, he did frequently fight bad guys, but women are capable of fighting as well. Even in the new series, the character hasn't done anything particularly gender specific, although had David Tennant's Doctor been female, that would have meant Rose was a lesbian.

Doctor Who is very British and I do not think it's been done for the Americans at all. Yes the budget got bigger and the effects look so good but that's just to make it more appealing to kids these days and more believable.

I still don't see the doctor as female.
Yes it's a female actor but it's still the same doctor at heart in a different body.
