This is entirely new. It occurs when Media Creation tool x64 is creating the setup media.
I have made no changes apart from uninstalling F-Secure and Spyhunter.

An added complication is that there are normal and N versions and even a KN version for South Korea. You have to update using the matching one.
Quote:
N and KN editions follow the upgrade path of the parent edition (e.g., Windows 7 Professional N upgrades to Windows 10 Pro N).
|
N version is without Windows Media Player etc.
There are a few more thing to watch out for in this link.

Windows 7 desktop gadgets will be removed as part of installing Windows 10.

It won't download on any connection you've marked as metered. But that's not possible on Windows 7.

Re: [Update] Windows 10 Discussion
Interesting development! The roll out has reached me!
The process of installation began last night at 10.00 pm. A Get Windows 10 window appeared. This quickly read "Working on it..." At 8.00 this morning it is still there. The hard drive is busy processing something.
I am assuming that the installation process is busily figuring out my system and making adjustments for it - or has stalled.
What I don't get is why this upgrade is so naff that it can't work quickly with my very typical system / configuration. I remember upgrading to Windows 7 from my old operating system with no problems - all my old files, programmes, drivers, discs and add-ons being dealt with deftly. What is so special about Windows 10 that it can't manage my configuration swiftly?

Never had a problem on my system, it only took 30mins when I joined the insider program, so maybe you have a problem.

That is an understatement! Yet, my configuration is not particularly unusual. It works without any sign of underlying problems. All drivers are up-to-date.
No system is the same. MS should be able to cope. Going by the problems I am reading about in the various forums there are mounting problems with the upgrade process, installed Windows 10 not functioning properly and ruined systems.
Imagine the millions of non-savvy computer users out there who don't know what is about to hit them.

Re: [Update] Windows 10 Discussion
I've reserved my free upgrade, but I didn't realise I had to wait until they tell me when it is ready, how long does that take?

It varies. I waited since June some time.
Waste of time though, in my case.
The rolled out installation hung all night. So, this morning, I was recommended a Windows Update fixer so I ran that and the W10 upgrade resumed through Windows Update. "At last", I thought. Unfortunately after going through systems checks etc the installation fell over at 30% just at the point where it was installing drivers, etc. Same old, same old I'm afraid.
I have decided not to bother. Windows 7 is fine.

Thanks for that folks, but Windows 8 was not as good as 7 from what I gather. It would be handy to know if Windows 7 people are as happy about the upgrade.
I have decided to wait for the go ahead as I don't have a USB stick or enough DVD's to download the upgrade from Microsoft site.
