Agreed, something I talked about last week.

I guess the only issue for Premier Sports buying it is that if it's losing money, why would they want to buy it again, even if they could get it for a knock-down price? Why not invest the £30m they got from Viaplay in something that they will get a return on?

The argument against this is that they know the business well and might be in a good position to negotiate rights costs down as there will be little competition for them.

I went onto YouTube and they seem to be doing live coverage of the 17th (one hole).

Streaming fans look away now! Apple rules itself out of Premier League rights. Main reason is they're not global.

Pffft - what do a stick-in-the-mud, no idea what the consumers want, renowned for their terrible products that consumers hate, company like Apple know?

Indeed.

Credit to Phunkenstein at the start of the year. When this rumour first came out, he said that Apple only bid for global rights.

Someone at the Premier League will be crying into their beer tonight that Apple have gone public so they can’t repeat the “stalking horse” strategy. Although Sky saw through it anyway last time there actually was an auction.

I'm pretty certain that if many of us on the Forum thought Apple wouldn't bid, based on sound reasoning, then the Premier League held similar views too.

What headlines can we expect to see being pushed out there?

DAZN runs the rulebook over ViaSport UK and hints at big bid for Premier League Rights. Insiders detail how they've learnt from their experience in Italy and are ready to give cash-starved footy fans what they want.

Saudi owners of Newcastle United considering launch of £15pm Football Streaming Service. But the 3pm kick-off ban must go!

GB News' billionaire owners Legatum in surprise swoop for ViaSport UK assets. Insiders talk of a rebrand to GB Sports and taking the fight to Sky with record-breaking bid for Premier League rights.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Oh I’m sure the League knew an Apple bid was fanciful. Just if it’s not said out loud do other bidders get spooked and bid more.

Haven’t heard anything new on Viaplay since Canal+ took their stake.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Now we know Viaplay are exiting the UK market, what’ll be the fate of their sports rights? Some individual competitions might put their rights back up to tender, but the likes of Sky and TNT could swoop for the rights. DAZN are struggling in the UK, so I can’t see them getting anything.

The thing is all of their rights are small beer, so if Sky were interested they’d have got them first time round.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

For TNT and Sky, those rights would result in increased costs with only very few additional subscribers.

DAZN might if they are planning on bidding for a Premier League rights package, but I only really think the UK market can support two pay sports broadcasters of any size.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Viaplay don't really many rights that any other big time broadcaster would want.

I think DAZN may go for them to bolster up their own poor rights.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

With the struggles with Viaplay I can see beIN Sports dipping there toes into the UK market ahead of the forthcoming Premier League rights by acquiring them.

You would have the biggest players in the UK market with Discovery, Sky, Amazon and beIN

No point for BeIN it's a full market.

Fundamentally BeIN, and Al Jazeera Sports before it, are bankrolled by the state of Qatar. They’ve had plenty of opportunity to join in to date and haven’t. Although money is no object it’s hard to think that the conditions are more favourable now than in the late 2000s/early 2010s when both pushed into markets outside MENA.

They do have a very good streaming service (ToD) which is in the MENA region and is expanding to Turkey. US$14 for all the EPL and Championship League.
