Re: Virgin Media Phorm Webwise Adverts [Updated: See Post No. 1, 77, 102 & 797]
Another question which will no doubt join the long long list of BT SUQ's (Significantly Unanswered Questions)
What proportion of BT employees have been given a staff briefing paper on the Webwise project and the tie-up with Phorm? (percentage and absolute numbers helpful)
What proportion of those BT employees who have been fully briefed on Webwise, are in favour? (percentage and absolute numbers please)
Could the relevant union possibly conduct a survey?
Any BT employees in main union asked the union for information about such a survey? After all - Webwise is materially damaging BT's reputation more and more each day.

Breaking news on El Reg:
Quote:
Another American ISP has frozen its plans to embrace behavioral ad targeting.
Massillon Cable TV, an ISP serving roughly 30,000 people in the great state of Ohio, says it was preparing to roll out behavioral ad technology from Silicon Valley start-up Front Porch, but as Congress continues to scrutinize the privacy implications of such systems, Front Porch has asked the company to hold off.

The only Phorm/ISP product is "BT Webwise" and typing that puts it top of the list.

As another ex BT employee, I can add to the other comments that there will be intense pressure for those who are aiming to deliver the Webwise system to have it in trial by the time of the shareholders meeting so that the senior management can announce it's launched.

I think to get the best chance of better targeted ranking in Google we all should write WebWise/Phorm in that specific order whenever we mention it.

Yes I know BBC webwise comes first as it has been around much longer and is there to help those who are inexperienced with IT and is used in schools with children.. Kent selected a name he knew would give an air of respectability to the con...... yes he is conning BT shame Ian and Emma are too blind to see....
Well lets try to get more mentions of webwise.....

Re: Virgin Media Phorm Webwise Adverts [Updated: See Post No. 1, 77, 102 & 797]
I've just overhauled Dephormation.org.uk ...
If we're in for a long haul, it might as well look cool. ![Cool](images/smilies/cool.gif) If things aren't sorted by the AGM, I'll put an SSL cert on the site to ease the FF3 pain.
So if you have a moment to spare, please let me know if you spot broken links. And if you're on BT corporate network, and you see a 'banned IP range' message please let me know. There is an, err, bug that may cause that to happen. I can't understand why at this moment, but will be up all night trying to fix it for you.
Right, I'm off to bed for a sound night's sleep. Goodnight all.

Re: Virgin Media Phorm Webwise Adverts [Updated: See Post No. 1, 77, 102 & 797]
I think (no really, I do it sometimes) that most casual net users will not even be looking up Webwise for any reason - BBC, BT, Phorm or any of the several thousand other companies and organisations using "webwise" or "web wise" in their product name or description.
Those looking up "Webwise" in relation to this issue will also look for Phorm as that is by far a higher profile word but even then it will hardly be a casual search.
It would be nice though to see this issue appear on the forst page of a Google search for spyware, security or other common search terms.
It is important to use all of the important phrases in these discussions and those familiar with the BT forums may remember that I asked members to include more references to Webwise to ensure that forum visitors are aware of the connection if and when the invitations to the trial are sent out. Bear in mind that the Webwise discussion thread is in the main section of the BT forum and there are a lot more people there posting across a number of forums and subjects related to BT who are likley to see the information.

In a nutshell Google does do this to some extent. Google sees search terms and it sees results. If people click on certain results more than others for certain search terms, it means extra traffic goes to that site in question and it is deemed more important relatively speaking in that search result.
It effectively gets more Google brownie points for for the next search result using them terms. It does not happen immediately but that is how sudden popular newsworthy sites can go to high in the Google rankings literally overnight.
