Liverpool are an example of poor buys, not enough decent youth players and mismanagement more than anything. None of which apply to Spurs.
It's a good deal monetary wise. However I would say you need to improve in the areas you're weak first and there is such a thing as too many quality players. Maybe other decent players won't get the space to break though. Using Arsenal as an example, because I am more familiar with them, Wilshere is a beneficiary of Wenger not buying to improve an already strong midfield. Bale would be a good example of someone who may not have broken though if this deal happened a year/a year and a half ago.
Who will be knocked further down the pecking order to make way for him? Maybe he will be rotated in or will be a first team fixture. I don't know. However I don't think he is really better than their current crop, which is why it puzzles me. It's adding to the squad, and not in areas where they needed it. Maybe they are in talks to sell someone....

Re: Football Season 2010/2011
LFC have accepted an offer from Hoffenheim for Ryan Babel. Now official.
Still loads of speculation over Luis Suarez, Downing and Young.
Looks like van Bommel is off to Milan.

Re: Football Season 2010/2011
Babel hasn't gone anywhere yet and neither have there been any signings, not officially.

Decent youth policy lol who was the last through their ranks, Ledley King.

Who is to say they aren't going to improve other areas and they don't have to many quality players, it's a squad game and you need 2 for every position, they play 5 in midfield and Pienaar can play anywhere in it.

We already know who has been knocked down the pecking order, Bentley. Or maybe they are in talks to buy some one
Tottenham are locked in a battle with Benfica to clinch the signing of Marseille defender Taye Taiwo. The Nigerian international, valued at £5m, has also been targeted by Everton.

Mmm. Might have a point there. I have always associated them with a good youth policy though.

Well so far they have not. All I have to go one as of yet, they probably will granted because they tend to be quite active in transfers. I was simply commenting that this transfer, while good value, is not needed. I am not a fan of clubs buying players because they can.

The Club announced on 12 June 2009 that for the 2009/2010 season it would not be entering a team in the Reserve League. Instead the reserve players would be loaned out for first team experience, and if necessary friendly matches would be arranged as required during the season to test out players returning from injury

l was wondering why Spurs din't play any res games, just think of that money Spurs are losing.

I simply cannot understand the rumours, that Tottenham keep going after defenders, we have so many defenders at Spurs that you could field a reserve tem of them, we need a couple of strikers.

...if you had a reserve team of course
Unfortunately those defenders include Ledley King & Jonathan Woodgate who can barely kick a ball between them for 10 mins without getting injured

How so? Surely they will be saving money? No transport, hotels, reserve team manager etc. to pay for? Although I will happily be corrected.

Re: Football Season 2010/2011
Still difficult to see who is going down and how the top of the table will pan out. On the current state of affairs I would have to say that West Ham, Wolves and Birmingham. I for one would welcome the relegation of Birmingham.

Re: Football Season 2010/2011
Looks like for the first time in it's almost 20 year history we'll have a Welsh club in the premiership. Obviously I'd prefer it to be Swansea but if both go up then we'll show you a real derby
