Re: [Further Update] Now *three* Tory MPs have thrown in the towel
Not sure what he's trying to achieve here? Is it a last-minute damage limitation exercise?
Quote:
Boris Johnson has made eleventh-hour representations to the privileges committee before it publishes a report which is expected to find that he deliberately misled parliament.
A spokesman for the inquiry said it was "dealing with" further submissions received from the former prime minister at 11.57pm on Monday.
It came as the panel of MPs examining claims that Mr Johnson lied to parliament over "partygate" met to conclude its investigation.

Indeed. The feeble minded will find no cake crumbs of comfort here. The rest of us understand that the issue is not cake but misleading Parliament. It's pretty obvious what the Conservative-dominated investigation has established.

What does it matter now he's resigned as an MP? I'm fed up of hearing about it and have moved on. I suggest others do the same.

It matters because it sets precedents and limitations on behaviours that breach the Rules of the House of Commons.

Nadine Dorries has still not formally resigned as a Tory MP
The Conservative Party will move two writs for Boris Johnson and Nigel Adams' seats for by-elections tomorrow

Including Boris? If only...
He's made it very clear he's coming back, prob after the next election when the Tories are desperate in opposition and will grab at anything, even it means falling further into the gutter. He just needs a safe seat, not sure there will be many of those with him standing.

Re: [Further Update] Now *three* Tory MPs have thrown in the towel
The search term “Corbyn” appears 200 times in the last 2 years If I generously concede 10% of those references to non-Jeremy’s it points towards the British public having very long memories and being slow to move on.
I’m quite happy to keep going about Boris as he is the personification or corruption and cronyism in the Conservative Party regardless of whether he holds elected office.

Nadine Dorries still hasn't resigned. Is she staying on so that the by-election occurs in September to create maximum inconvenience for Sunak? Or has she had a re-think about quitting?

Probably re-thinking quitting. She has minimal influence over the by-election timetable.
I think there will be 4 by elections in October (assuming she does quit) - the three Tories, plus Rutherglen & Hamilton West if the recall petition succeeds.

Looks like the Tories are in a hurry after all … the most likely by-election date is 20 July. However, Mad Nads as of this morning still hasn’t actually quit.

Re: [Further Update] Now *three* Tory MPs have thrown in the towel
I kind of feel sorry for Dorries. Not a fan of hers and don't think she deserves a peerage but to get hers blocked after being an MP for 18 years and a cabinet member for a lot of that when a 29-year-old 18-month advisor to Johnson gets one must be a slap in the face.

If she had said this then I would have felt sorry for her. However, she said the decision showed working class people could not get into the Lords.
