Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
Surely the best advertising is targeted, in this case to sports fans, who will mainly watch (at this time) Sky Sports.

So? That was their choice. It doesn't give them the right to flout advertising rules.
It was a mistake to let Sky build such a massive dominance in the sports market. But the broadcasting rules allowed them to do that. Well, those same rules should force them to accept all advertising on those channels.
Sky shouldn't be allowed to win this, but it worries me that they probably will.

Its an example of them abusing the monolopy that they have. They simply crush everything that attempts to get in their way by any means they possible can.

And if they do win this then BT Sports will follow ESPN and Setanta in exiting the sports rights market.

http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/bro...iscrimination/
As I read it, it's entirely up to Ofcom to decide what is "undue discrimination"

Ok so until then, people can't really complain they are breaking any 'rules' then.
No doubt Ofcom will be their usual efficient selves

Am certainly no fan of Sky or Murdoch, but them saying they don't want to run BT Sports adverts on their own Sky Sports channels seems perfectly reasonable to me. They have said they can run them on their other 100+ channels.
As I said, why would you allow your competitors to advertise on your own competing market channels?

Here is the real issue though, they did carry adverts for ESPN but because BT want to sell direct to customers, Sky are refusing to allow their adverts. That is simply them abusing their position and not allowing fair competition
ESPN, which currently holds the rights to some Premier League matches, does run football ads across Sky Sports, but does have a reciprocal carriage deal to air Sky channels. BT does not currently have a deal to air its sports content to Sky customers.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
Yes they had a reciprocal deal that they agreed with ESPN. But that's not to say they have to automatically carry BT's adverts on their channels.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
I think SKY will get away with this.
All SKY need to do is prove it would be to the detriment of their own product / business to allow a rivals adverts on their channels, especially channels that the rival is actually looking to poach subscribers from with their own new service. It's the key reason BT will want their adverts run on SKY Sports.
Did SKY allow adverts for Setanta Sports on the SKY Sports channels?
