No he didn't. The linesman did not flag until the ball was in the back of the net.

It's the old adage play to the whistle. Spurs only have themselves to blame.

The referee could have made himself clearer and yes it was an error not to penalise the handball, but the fact remains he did not signal or blow his whistle for a free kick. Gomez assumed it was a free kick and we all know where assumption gets you.

If Spurs passed the ball as well as they pass the buck maybe the result would have been different.

Re: Football Season 2010/2011

Yeah, United were perfectly within their rights. It is questionable sportsmanship when Nani knew that Gomes was placing it for the free kick and was looking towards the ref for guidance but you can't expect that in the modern game. It's also worth remembering Spurs were pretty dire and while, of course, they could get a goal against the run of play I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that this didn't have an effect on the final outcome.

Spurs were screwed but screwed within the rules of the game. In a fair world there would have been a free kick for the handball but, having missed out on that, Spurs should have coped better rather than letting Nani score. Weird case where no one is wrong or right. Spurs deeply unlucky and entitled to feel cheated whereas United are correct that the goal was right to be given.

As questionable as a player hiding behind a keeper in the hope he doesn't notice him.

Replace unlucky with stupid and you're closer to the mark.

Why - Nani have realised that the ref hadn't blown (and furthermore double checked with the ref) before scoring. Gomes must have also suddenly realised as he attempted to save Nani's shot. All in all a smart bit of play from Nani in my opinion.

Rather than stopping play, the referee may allow play to continue if doing so will benefit the team against which an offence has been committed. This is known as "playing an advantage". The referee may "call back" play and penalise the original offence if the anticipated advantage does not ensue within a short period
I understand that - I inferred that Arthur was suggesting that goals had been disallowed after a game had finished!!. That's what I was after links for.

Thanks anyway!!

Harry Redknapp today threatened the Football Association with a post-match media blackout if they charge him for his outspoken attack on the referee Mark Clattenburg.
Wonder if 'Arry will include his column in The Sun with that? I don't think he has the ability not to tal to the press to be honest.

Re: Football Season 2010/2011

The Sun is a personal thing and not tied to his job as manager of Spurs.

Let's face it, the media love Harry and Harry loves the media. No way would he pull a Fergie. He's just trying to make a point. A valid one IMO. If he can't tell the truth then what's the point of an interview?

BTW when he stormed off after that guy called him a wheeler-dealer he was interview by him a week later (transfer deadline day). Suffice to say the Sky man was very contrite.

The Football Association will take no formal action against the Tottenham boss for his criticism of referee Mark Clattenburg after Spurs' 2-0 defeat.

Love the photo they used of Harry in the article

Re: Football Season 2010/2011

Even though Harry only got a warning over the comments, which were correct, you notice that the FA or PL haven't said anything about the goal, being ruled out.

I wonder what game Disgraceful Clattenburg will ref next, Prem or Champ.

If Ferguson had got away with saying something similar there would be an uproar. How hes got away with this is a joke.

Oh please. This is the guy who refuses to talk to the BBC, often cancels press conferences and bans certain journalists from Old Trafford if he disagrees with something they have written. All without much of a fuss being kicked up. If Benetez had done something similar they would have been uproar.

Fergie is one of the cabal of managers well protected by the press. Him, 'Arry, Hughes, Allardyce and O'Neill.

Although at least Harry (and Sir Alex obviously) is a genuinely good manager with proven success (top 4 finish is something) and a team that plays decent football.

I think you can safely add Roy Hodgson to the LMA/News International funny handshake club too. I wonder if they also wear special pointy hoods when they're dancing around the bonfire with effigies of those nasty foreign managers
